grief really be showing up as cooking 16 lbs of adobo 😅
my grandma on my mom’s side would cook us something if we were sick or in need of support. with her absence, this is what my grandma would have liked me to do.
we hauled it up to the bay in a big cambro and reheated it at my parent’s home. our big family ate this together for several days while we held the funeral events. I felt happy and also grief when I heard my mom say it tasted good. we all miss grandma lita so much.
cooking isn’t just for nourishment. it’s also for comfort and connection. for helping us get through even the toughest days. for reminding us to love and care for each other. 💕
if you’re looking to eat something comforting, the chicken adobo recipe is on the blog~ link in bio 🔗

first homecooked meals in the new house! 😋
we’ve been slowly coming back to our regular cooking routines and getting back on the saddle with the blog. keeping it simple and cozy, just how we like it on busy days of home improvement!
🥣 yogurt bowls - gluten free granola, bananas, texas bee pollen (thanks ellie!)
🍅 tomato + egg stir fry rice bowl
🍢 oden
🐔chicken bone broth + shredded chicken - used for chicken + rice, chicken soup, etc.
🇵🇭 pancit from the neighbors
got any ideas for ways to use bone broth/chicken? we wanna meal prep this again. please share!

to the one who taught me how to make adobo.
who…
…babysat me every day while my parents worked hard to support our family.
…always picking the leftover bones clean from my plate.
…took me to the store for fresh hot carioca even though I wasn’t allowed dessert.
…added extra quail eggs to arroz caldo because she knew I liked it.
…hummed her own tunes and gave her grandchildren endless smell-kisses.
…loved me unconditionally ❤️
she was my grandmother, but she was also my role model and safe place. I feel so much loss, and am reminded of her everywhere I go. but I know she will always be with me.
may perpetual light shine upon Isabelita Kayas. may she rest in peace 🕊️

first time hosting at the new house was a huge success! 👌🎊
let’s take y’all behind the scenes of this party:
elijah requested bbq for his birthday, and we kept the menu easy because we were still working getting the house ready. like we literally got an outdoor table, set up the string lights, added plants, fixed the fence, and assembled the outdoor cooking station by the 11th hour! special thanks to and for visiting from the bay and helping us with cooking, prepping, decorating, errands, and everything in between!
the menu is a mix of homemade goodies and catered dishes. and for bbq, we did it live instead of trying to cook it ahead of time. with careful planning, we were able to make this feast real without too much stress! leave your questions in the comments!
our housewarming menu:
🥭manila mango tower -
🍪mini polvoron cookies - pasalubong from elijah’s dad
🍞pound cake and 🦀crab rangoons - .meals
🥗chinese chicken salad -
🇵🇭 lumpiang shanghai -
🥣homemade chicken tinola
🍖homemade bbq skewers (marinated pork, veggie, quail egg)
🍰strawberry shortcake -
🍋 yuzu sparkling water - (use code “itsforkandspoon” for 15% off orders of $40+. link in bio!)
save this for your next hosting event~

happy housewarming 🏠😊💖
we’re nearly done unpacking and finally had the chance to soak it alllll in! kicking off this new chapter the only way we knew how - a filipino backyard bbq 🍖, a house blessing (w henny 🤭), and karaoke! 🎤
🥹 this home isn’t just a roof over our heads. it’s a place that we promise to steward and tend to. we’ll make this home a place to rest, heal, and welcome loved ones. it’s already been an adventure in itself, but it will also carry us through life’s adventures. it’s our thousand sunny! 🦁
🙏 thank you to our friends who traveled here and those who have helped us along the way! we love you guys so so much!
kinda obvi, but it was really awesome hosting here for the first time! compared to apt life, there was plenty of space to gather and enough room for cooking and prepping. we’ll never forget that time when we sardined 20+ ppl for a thanksgiving potluck at the old place 🫠🐟 good times though!
got any ideas for our next event? I wanna do a matcha cafe round 2. we’re so excited to host more!

making the house a home 🏠 - we finished our first month as homeowners!
we’re living life in analog lately and enjoying the journey of making this house our home 😊
the days are all blurring together and we have so many things to do. a simple task leads to the discovery of more tasks to be done, which turns into hours long projects and several hardware store trips. despite how tired and busy we are every day, we feel so much joy in that we’re doing all of this together. totally in awe of the blessings that life gives us~
in the beginning we were so busy we ate lots of taco bell, in n out, and costco hot dogs. but we’re starting to cook again! just simple meals but they hit so good~ 😋
tell us — what was the first thing you set up when you moved?

It’s the end of an era…
After almost 9 years in Culver City, it’s time we start a new chapter. 📖
For the past few months, we’ve been quietly cooking something other than food. 🧑🍳👩🍳 Finding a property!! It was uncertain if we were even going to find a place with the current market. But after many sleepless nights, lessons learned, and shooting our shots over and over — we have a HOUSE!! 🏡
As you can see we have really slowed down the blog as our computers and everything we own is in boxes atm. 📦We‘ll be back to our regular posting once we’ve moved.
Thank you to everyone for being a part of this journey~ Stay tuned!
📸: enjoying sunset at our fav local wine bar . We’ll miss walking over for no corkage mondays!

While this announcement is a happy one, we just can’t ignore what’s going on in MN. We feel angry and fearful for the safety of our friends, families, and neighbors. Right now, Elijah and I are hyper aware of the privilege of starting this new chapter of our lives meanwhile so many out there are suffering and in danger.
Please if you’re reading this, do everything in your power to protect your community and hold the line on our constitutional rights. We promise to continue to use our platform to share local resources and uplift immigrant voices.
