How do you know fall is almost here at Newfields? A few thousand pumpkins just showed up. 🎃

Crates of pumpkins and gourds are making their way into The Garden as we get ready for Harvest Nights presented by Everwise Credit Union, opening September 25.

Soon, they’ll be tucked throughout the grounds, lining pathways and helping transform The Garden for one of Indy’s favorite fall traditions.

A new giant has arrived at Newfields. Local artist Nathaniel Johnson, known as , large-scale mural will be the first giant work guests see when they arrive to experience Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys presented by JPMorgan Chase at Newfields.

The project was developed as a unique way to build excitement for the arrival of Giants while also using the moment to celebrate an artist working in the Indianapolis community. The partnership with Indy Arts Council brought together a major exhibition and local creative talent, extending the spirit of Giants beyond the galleries and into an unexpected space on the Newfields campus.

The mural will be on view for the entire run of the exhibition. Giants is open at Newfields September 18 through February 28, 2027.

Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys is organized by the Brooklyn Museum. It is curated by Kimberli Gant, the Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, and Indira A. Abiskaroon, the former Curatorial Assistant of Modern and Contemporary Art, Brooklyn Museum. The coordinating curator for the exhibition at Newfields is Belinda Tate, The Melvin & Bren Simon Director of the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields.

More than 40 works by Newfields employees reveal another side of the people who care for the collection, cultivate The Garden, design exhibitions, welcome guests, and bring experiences across campus to life.

Tim Hawkinson’s Möbius Ship is back on view in the latest rotation of Message is the Medium: Contemporary Art. Look closely and you’ll find everyday materials like craft wood, staples, twist ties, rope, and packing materials transformed into a mind bending ship that seems to twist endlessly into itself.

Inspired by Moby Dick and the mathematical puzzle of the Möbius Strip, there’s more to this ship than meets the eye. See it for yourself on your next visit to the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Each fall, apples harvested from historic Tanner Orchard at Newfields are donated to Second Helpings, helping the season’s bounty go a little further for our Indianapolis community.
