Tisas ASF

About as accurate as I can get with the small sights and my not so young eyes.

This particular model from Tisas is very popular due to its closeness to the Re*****on Rand. I initially didn't like it that much, as the extractor needed adjustment and the shells flew everywhere. I also had a lot of bent shell casings, which I attributed to the raised ejection port.

After I blued it, I completely rebuilt it and increased the MSH spring pressure to offset some light primer strikes. I did a lot of test firing to get it right and the combination of the rebuild and more rounds though it since being Blued has made it into an exceptional shooter.

It has gone from something I wasn't overly impressed with to one of my favorite 1911's. I think the worn Blued finish also adds to the appeal as well.

Stainless Springfield 1911-A1.

This particular model has the straight slide serrations, low sights and raised ejection port.
Its a very nice used example, with some slight scuff marks, that will get some Flitz treatment.

New springs, a modified Sear and some Double Tap treatment are also on the agenda, as it will not be a safe queen.

On it's first outing, it fired as nice as it looks, although an adjustment of the sights is required to offset the left grouping on the target.

My three favorite G***ks

G17, G19 and G48

G***k day at the range.

From right: 17, 19, 23, 48 and 43X

Which was the nicest to fire ? The G17 and the G48

Which felt the most imposing: The G23 in 40 of course.

The G19 felt the most familiar and comfortable.

Beautiful Stainless Springfield.

This has the straight grip striations and raised ejection port. Some new springs, l**e and a Double Tap Stainless sealant are lined uo for this excellent example.

Tune in again next week for its first time at the range report.

Happy 45 Friday.

Two of my current favorite to fire 45's: A Norinco and Springfield.

C**t M1991 close to perfection.

Despite C**t fitting a plastic trigger and MSH for cost cutting purposes, the M1991's were good reliable pistols in their day. This 1992 version was in good condition when acquired and is a nice example of these generally overlooked C**ts.

As a minimum, I wanted to replace the plastic parts and decided to make this the best version I could. A friend Old Path Traveller had recently fitted a Nighthawk's Sear and Disconnector for his C**t M1991 and was pleased with the results.

I fitted a new trigger, MSH, Sear, Disconnector and Hammer and I'm really pleased with the results. The trigger is set at 4 pounds and is extremely crisp, providing that 'glass rod' trigger break we strive for.

I highly recommend the complete trigger kit or as a minimum, the Sear and Disconnector. Thanks to:

Polymer Pistol Chronicles #2

Springfield XDM Elite fullsize 9mm

I have the XDM Elite's in 10mm fullsize, 10mm compact and 45 compact. They are extremely reliable, accurate and well made. Therefore they are part of my carry rotation. Being a 1911 person, I am comfortable with grip safety's and find it a worthwhile addition to the series.

I came across this excellent example recently and found it to be practically unused or 'not fired in Texas'. It shoots superb and now completes my XDM set. I dont see the point is sourcing the compact version, but you never know of course.

Used G***k 23 in near perfect condition. These ex issue fi****ms can be such great finds!

My G***k 19 was the inspiration for switching up to the 40 S&W version. It has a slightly beefier slide and 13 round magazine, instead of 15 rounds of 9mm. I think this is a fair trade off considering the stopping power of 40 and would be happy using this as one of my EDC.

The increased recoil is noticeable over the G***k 19 and finding an off the shelf holster may not be easy. The manufacturers concentrate on those models still popular with the various agencies, so probably need to order a custom holster.

C**ts on a Blue background.

Same pistols, different color background, music and mood. Both sets of photos show the same pistols in different ways.

Neither set of photos seem better than the other, as they are all treated with Double Tap and their gloss reacts differently to the background color.

The M1991 is also treated, but is a matt phosphate and Double Tap does not alter the look of matt.
