The Statehouse File
TheStatehouseFile.com is an Indiana news outlet powered by Franklin College journalism students.
From an office lovingly called "the Shack" in the Press Corps of the Indiana Statehouse, the journalism majors of Franklin College's Pulliam School of Journalism work alongside the best reporters in the state, digging into the behind-the-scenes stories of Indiana politics. We're a full-time student newsroom, but our work doesn't sit on a professor's desk. We create daily content for this website a

This summer, our resident hustler Savannah Shotwell is also working for The Danville Republican newspaper, which is graciously sharing what she makes with us. In time for the Fourth of July, TheStatehouseFile.com is collaborating with student reporting projects in nine other states to capture this moment in time as the U.S. reaches its 250th anniversary. Our reporters have gathered stories from Indy Pride, the Miami Nation of Indiana's powwow, a Juneteenth food festival, a YMCA summer camp and many more places, all in an attempt to show how ordinary Hoosiers are still showing up for the American experiment, even as our politics become more fraught and our communities seemingly more divided. We're super excited about this project—even Lauren and Jeremy, who got put in the stocks at the DAR Colonial Fair on Friday for some unrelated-to-journalism transgressions. 😆 Stay tuned!
