Look at these beauties. 🌶️🍅 These flats of peppers and tomatoes showed up last Friday—some of the prettiest produce we've seen all year. Here's the thing people don't always realize: rescued food isn't spoiled or second-rate. It's usually just too much...surplus that would've gone to waste for no good reason. So, our team is turning these tomatoes into scratch-made sauce and these peppers into stir-fry that'll land on plates across Central Indiana.

From June 4–18, we asked Central Indiana for pasta during the Gr8 Pasta Push. Central Indiana answered with more than 18,000 pounds of it.
Collection boxes sat in the lobby of every Kroger in Marion County for two weeks straight. On one Saturday alone, our team set up outside five of those stores and watched more than 4,000 pounds of noodles come out the door in shopping carts — one (or six) extra box(es) at a time.
You gave funds, too: $18,000 to help cover the cost of turning donated and rescued food into meals.
Together, that pasta and those dollars became more than 120,000 meals for our partner agencies, shelters, senior centers, after-school programs, and more.

Big Noodle Energy: Meet the Golden Colander winners:
Parsons Corporation out-collected everyone with 3,367 pounds.
Right behind them: Ed Martin Automotive Group and WISH-TV, who brought in 2,853 pounds together.
And Phillip and Sarah generated the most funds for the Gr8 Pasta Push.
Both Parsons and Phillip and Sarah each took home a Golden Colander, our highest, shiniest honor for people who take pasta seriously.

What a Friday! 🎉 The newly refreshed Kroger on South East Street cut the ribbon today and invited us to celebrate with them. Our interim CEO Bob Koch was there to accept an incredible gift: a $60,000 check AND 1,000 pounds of pasta, loaded straight into one of our vans.
Kroger helps us rescue tons of food every single year, and gifts like this are exactly how that rescued food becomes meals for kids, seniors, and neighbors across Central Indiana.
Thank you, Kroger — you're the kind of partner every community hopes for. 💚

It's been a moment since the whole Friday crew was in the house - but they're here today in all their glory making about 6000 meals for kids, seniors and the adults that our partners serve. Happy, fabulous Friday from us all!

A clean kitchen is a safety feature.
Saturday was deep clean day at Second Helpings, and a whole crew spent it getting after every nook and cranny — the racks, the coolers, the ovens, and all the spots that need a little extra attention. Scrubbing, spraying, mopping, and resetting the room that turns rescued food into more than a million meals a year.
It's not glamorous work. It's essential work. A kitchen that feeds this many people has to be spotless, and days like Saturday are how we keep it that way.
To everyone who showed up with a sponge and a good attitude: thank you. You made the place shine. ✨

Maggie and her team spent the morning in the sandwich room building sauces for next week's sandwiches, the ones headed out to more than 200 partner agencies across Central Indiana.
They could open a jar. They don't.
Because the meals we send out have to do two things at once: be genuinely good for you, and taste like someone cared. Fresh ingredients are what make that possible, they give chefs like Maggie room to actually create instead of just assemble.
Watch her walk through it. Then think about the fact that this sauce ends up on a sandwich for someone who might not have eaten today.
