This project focused on creating a welcoming, functional environment that better supports the people using the space every day.
At Carey Services, thoughtful design decisions around layout, lighting, material selection, and flow helped create a comfortable and flexible lounge area designed to encourage connection, usability, and everyday interaction.
Projects like this remind us that even smaller spaces can have a significant impact on daily experience when they are designed intentionally.
We’re also excited to continue working with Carey Services on Phase II of the project, which will include a new art room and life skills area designed to further support creativity, independence, and personal development for the individuals they serve.
That long-term growth and continued investment in people is what these projects are all about.

The goal of this project wasn’t just expansion—it was creating a more connected and efficient space for the community it serves.
The addition to the Brookside Building allowed the John H. B***r Center to bring multiple services together under one roof, helping improve accessibility, collaboration, and the overall experience for clients.
The existing Brookside wing was renovated to support a new social program, including open and private offices along with a new entrance and lobby space designed to create a more welcoming environment.
Projects like this highlight how thoughtful planning and design can help organizations operate more effectively while better supporting the people who rely on them every day.

In early May, HealthNet, Inc. celebrated the completion of the new retail pharmacy at the Barrington Health Center — another project completed in partnership with Halstead Architects.
Expanding beyond the original pharmacy footprint within the Raymond Street facility, the new space located in the former HealthNet administration building allows for expanded retail and specialty pharmacy services while continuing to support the broader healthcare needs of the community.
The Barrington Health Center now provides a more comprehensive and accessible environment for patients, offering services including:
• General Medicine
• OB/GYN
• Pediatrics
• Vision Care
• Behavioral Health
• Chiropractic Care
• Podiatry
• Retail & Specialty Pharmacy Services
As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), HealthNet plays a critical role in providing affordable and accessible healthcare services to the community, and we’re proud to support that mission through thoughtful, functional design.
From the branded entry experience to the clean and modern pharmacy interior, every detail was planned to support both staff workflow and patient comfort.
Great design. Meaningful impact. Community focused.

These days, medical office space is as much about aesthetics as it is about operational efficiency, especially when dealing with the boutique med-spa industry. Working with the owner, Michael Scheker, to provide architectural services for his new IV Nutrition (https://www.facebook.com/ivnutritioncarmel) med-spa in Carmel, IN was as smooth as the process could be. Michael brought clear vision to the table from day one, and with our expertise in adaptive re-use developed detailed plans to allow the selected general contractor, Stone Co. (https://www.facebook.com/stonecoindy) to deliver the project on time and on budget. Now it’s time to sit back, relax, and rejuvenate with an IV drip!

We had a great time representing Halstead Architects at McCulloch Junior High School’s Career Day last week!
We enjoyed talking with students about architecture, design, construction, and the many different paths that can lead into the profession. From sketching ideas to seeing projects built in the community, it was exciting to share what architects do and hopefully inspire the next generation of designers and problem-solvers.
Thank you to McCulloch Junior High School for the invitation and for creating opportunities like this for students to explore future careers. We appreciate everyone who stopped by our table and asked great questions throughout the morning!

From foul balls to fast laps! ⚾🏁 An exciting end to the work week for Halstead Architects!
Last Thursday, the team got to enjoy a day game at Victory Field to watch the Indianapolis Indians with Ketchum & Walton CO.
Friday was Patterson Horth's annual AIA Indiana Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The continued education session featured Chris Sussott, SLE Technologies and Craig Healey of VSI-SPL.
Here's Mike Halstead reflecting on the experience of working at such a legendary Indianapolis landmark,
" I have been a yellow shirt in Gasoline Alley for 9 years. I have always loved the Indy 500, its traditions and importance to Indiana. I was working on Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus and the head of their building committee – Bill Schnackel – and I became friends. One day he asked me if I would ever be interested in working at the track. I told him I wouldn’t want to park cars or take tickets but I would love to work in Gasoline Alley – the heartbeat of the race. Bill said coincidentally he was the supervisor of Gasoline Alley and could get me on the team if I passed a background check. So I completed the paper work – they didn’t catch anything too bad in my past – and I have been thrilled to be a part of the race ever since. There is nothing quite like being in the center of everything at the track – it’s exciting, busy, long and hard days, exposed to the weather and a lot of people, and a little dangerous. But I can’t imagine not working the Indy 500. I'm hooked! "
