Wooly Dutchman's Pipevine

Native Plant of the Week:
Wooly Dutchman's Pipevine

Wooly pipevine is a deciduous, woody, twining vine. Wooly pipevine is easily grown in moist, loamy, sandy soil. It does not tolerate dry soil and prefers full sun to partial shade.Wooly pipevine is the main larval food source for the pipevine swallowtail butterfly (Battus philenor). The caterpillars can devour all the leaves, but the defoliated vine will recover. The caterpillars do no lasting harm. The flowers emit an odor that attracts flies, which are the pollinators. The vine is moderately resistant to deer.

The dense foliage would make them an ideal plant for an arbor or trellis. The vine can be grown in vertical shapes to create a privacy screen on porches, fences, arbors, walls, pillars or pergolas.

We have currently have mature Wooly Dutchman's Pipevine Plants in 3 gallon pots. This is a rare treat for us to have this plant available for you.

Come in for Healthy Garden Vegetable Plants

If you found yourself at a box store or hardware store this past holiday weekend for a home project (I know I did!), you may have wandered through the garden center too. Unfortunately, what I saw at the big box stores made me a little queasy. The plants that were heat stressed, water stressed, wilted, and dry, looking like they hadn’t been watered in days. Sadly, plants in that condition aren’t likely to bounce back.

The good news? Our plants are happy, healthy, and thriving, and we still have an excellent selection ready for your garden. Some of our tomato and pepper plants are already so big they’re fruiting, so don’t think you’ve missed your chance to get growing. With May’s cold, wet start, if you feel behind on planting, you’re not.
