A day out of the shelter just having fun was exactly what Judy needed! 🥰

She enjoyed a leisurely walk (with a little VIP carrying service when she decided she'd had enough), plenty of time to sniff new smells, watch squirrels from a fenced backyard, relax during the rain, roll around in the grass, and finish the day with a pup cup and lots of treats.

Her Dog Day Out buddy described her as affectionate, gentle, and happiest soaking up time with her person. Judy would likely thrive with a family looking for a loving companion who enjoys moderate adventures followed by plenty of cuddle time.

Our Dog Day Out program gives pups a chance to relax, explore the world outside the shelter, and helps us learn more about their personalities so we can find them the right home.

To adopt one of our amazing animals, you'll need to visit us in person. Once you're here, you'll meet with one of our Adoption Counselors, spend time getting to know the pet you're interested in, make sure it's the right fit for everyone, and complete the adoption process.

Want to save some time? You can fill out an adoption application online before you visit! While this helps speed up the paperwork, it does not reserve or hold an animal, and it does not hold your place in line. If you've submitted one online, the next step is simply to stop by the shelter!

When Ayce first came to IndyHumane, he was so severely underweight that his recovery had to be taken one careful step at a time. Today, we're celebrating an incredible milestone: he's gained 30 pounds and was healthy enough to enjoy his very first Dog Day Out! 🥹

His adventure started with a little nervousness around the car, but after a walk in the park, Ayce confidently hopped right in all by himself. He happily explored for about half a mile before deciding he'd much rather spend the rest of the outing cuddling. ❤️

If there's one thing we've learned about Ayce, it's that he has never met a stranger. Whether you're a volunteer or someone he just met, he'll gladly lean in for pets. Ayce still has some weight to gain and our medical team is carefully monitoring his recovery every step of the way, and they're thrilled with how far he's come.

We also had a generous volunteer sponsor a DNA test, and we found out that Ayce is 46% Neapolitan Mastiff, which explains those big droopy jowls and huge heart!

Do you remember when we we posted about Doja & Remy? Well, we're excited to share that they got the happy ending we all wanted!

When these two two senior best friends were surrendered together, their previous families final request was simple:
"Please take care of my babies."
We promised we would.

Finding homes for senior dogs is never easy. Finding a home for two senior, large-breed dogs who need to stay together can feel nearly impossible.

Then something incredible happened! A family came to the shelter specifically to meet Doja. During their visit, they learned about Remy. Instead of taking one, they decided they couldn't imagine separating them. Even more amazingly, their adopter worked with her doctor to manage a dog allergy because giving these pups a home was worth it.

Now, Doja and Remy are spending their golden years together and already snuggling up in their new bed! ❤️
