Is Your Second Toe Starting to Cross Over?

A hammertoe happens when a toe becomes bent at the middle joint, causing it to curl or rise upward. Over time, it can lead to:

✔ Pain or discomfort in shoes
✔ Corns and calluses
✔ Redness or irritation
✔ Difficulty finding comfortable footwear

The earlier a hammertoe is treated, the more options you may have to relieve pain and slow its progression.

If you're noticing changes in the shape of your toes, don't wait until it becomes painful.

Summer is prime season for foreign bodies in the foot.

We often see patients who stepped on something weeks, or even months, earlier and assumed it had worked its way out on its own.

Common culprits include:
🪵 Splinters
🌹 Thorns
🧊 Glass
🔩 Metal fragments
🐚 Sharp shells or rocks

What should you do if you step on something?
✅ Wash the area with soap and water
✅ If the object is clearly visible and easy to remove, use clean tweezers
✅ Monitor for redness, swelling, drainage, worsening pain, or difficulty walking
❌ Avoid digging deeply into the skin yourself
❌ Don't ignore symptoms that persist

If a foreign body remains in the foot, it can lead to infection, inflammation, or ongoing pain.

At Indy Podiatry, we can locate and safely remove foreign bodies that aren't visible from the surface. Call us today!

If foot, ankle, or joint pain is making it difficult to stay active, swimming may be one of the best exercises you can do.

Because the water supports your body weight, swimming allows you to move without placing the same stress on your feet and joints as walking, running, or other high-impact activities.

Swimming may be especially helpful for:

✔ Arthritis
✔ Plantar Fasciitis
✔ Tendonitis
✔ Joint Pain
✔ Recovery After Injury
✔ Balance & Mobility Challenges

Staying active is important for maintaining strength, circulation, flexibility, and overall health, especially as we age.

Always check with your healthcare provider before starting a new exercise program, but for many people, the pool is a great place to stay moving when land-based exercise becomes difficult.

☀️ Don't Forget Your Feet!

The tops of the feet are one of the most commonly missed spots when applying sunscreen, especially when wearing sandals or flip-flops.

A painful sunburn isn't the only concern. Repeated sun exposure can increase your risk of skin cancer and premature skin aging.

✔Apply sunscreen to the tops of your feet and toes
✔ Don't forget your ankles and areas exposed by sandal straps
✔ Reapply every 2 hours when outdoors

Don't let a sunburn ruin your summer!

Does your foot look like this?

A bunion is more than just a bump on the side of your foot. It can lead to pain, swelling, difficulty finding comfortable shoes, and worsening deformity over time.

The good news? The sooner a bunion is evaluated, the more treatment options may be available to help manage symptoms and keep you moving comfortably.

If you're noticing a bump near your big toe or experiencing foot pain, don't wait for it to get worse.
