As AI continues to reshape the workforce, we don’t have to start from scratch. A new article from the National Skills Coalition highlights how the manufacturing sector is already offering a roadmap for navigating technological change.
Key takeaways:
1. Technology investments must be matched with intentional, ongoing workforce training to deliver real value.
2. Worker voice matters. Engaging employees in how new technology is implemented leads to stronger outcomes and adoption.
3. Employers that embed skill-building into onboarding and operations are better positioned to adapt and compete.
At EmployIndy, we see this as a clear call to action: workforce development must remain at the center of innovation. Preparing people (not just deploying technology) is what drives long-term economic growth.

Last week, our leadership joined OneAmerica Financial, Future Forward Institute, and the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation at the Pathways Impact Fund's Action and Learning Summit at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. for a conversation on strategies and realistic expectations of creating work-based learning opportunities that benefit employers and set students on a path to economic mobility.
“For almost a decade, EmployIndy has connected employers with young people to create over 30,000 work-based learning opportunities each year. With Indiana’s new high school diploma requirements and a growing demand for career-connected experiences like apprenticeships, we can no longer rely on only a handful of employers doing exceptional work. We need to rethink our approach and scale systems to make participation accessible to more of our employers. EmployIndy is doing this right now with partners across Central Indiana.
—Ken Clark, President + CEO, EmployIndy
Thank you to John Garcia III, the Pathways Impact Fund, and StriveTogether for bringing together leaders from across the country for this important conversation and to drive this work forward.
