This is supposed to be a gift but I can't wait until the reveal to share. So anyone BUT Parker Hare can enjoy for now. Maple, walnut and cherry wood. Chisel work and the painful, yet oddly satisfying card scraping technique was used to level the squares/banding. A chamfer is along the outside edge of the banding to give a classic and elegant profile.

Rubio Monocoat Pure as the finish and it has to sit untouched for several days. Minor upkeep will be required down the road as the finisher is for furniture, so 1 day decades from now it will need a little TLC. A few pieces of this are still being left to the element of surprise.

This is an empty but dirty work area. "Empty" is the key word. The chessboard is finished and we are taking a week off the celebrate our achievement. A full set of of pictures and videos are coming in the near future to document the highs and lows of our journey in accomplishing something new. The client was moved to tears when she saw the final product.

Helped rebuild mom's deck this weekend. It was hard work but many lessons were learned. Mainly, if I ever have to build a deck, call my uncle Ron (lol). Sadly we ran out of time but the only thing left is the stairs.

Our first coat of poly-clear. Hoping to assemble on Saturday and adding our top coat of epoxy no later than Sunday. Followed by lots of sanding and polishing. Anyone interested in watching the process?
