SENIOR SPOTLIGHT | PATRICK MATTHEWS

Not every player leaves his mark on a program through tries, tackles, or what shows up on the stat sheet.

For Patrick Matthews of Carmel, Indiana, his impact has always been about something more.

Patrick may be one of the quieter guys in the room, but you can almost always count on seeing him with a smile on his face. Whether he’s helping on the sidelines, showing up for his teammates, or just being Patrick at a team social, he has found his place within Marian Rugby.

Rugby hasn’t always come easily to Patrick, but he kept showing up. And there’s something to be said for that.

For Patrick, this team became much more than a group of guys he played rugby with. They became his brothers. A place where he belonged, where he could be himself, and where he knew he was part of something bigger.

Four years from now, nobody will remember every score or every lineup. But they’ll remember the teammates who were there, who smiled, who helped, and who genuinely cared about the people around them.

Patrick is one of those teammates.

We’re proud that Patrick found his place with the Knights — and even more grateful that Marian Rugby became a place he could call home.

Sam Mossoney, from Pendleton, Indiana, knows what it feels like to win. A state champion in high school, Sam came to Marian Rugby with a championship mindset and an understanding of what it takes to be part of something bigger than yourself.

His college career, however, hasn’t always gone according to plan. Injuries have tested Sam again and again over the past few years. But one thing they haven’t taken from him is his determination.

He kept showing up. He kept working. He never quit.

And even when he couldn’t contribute the way he wanted to on the pitch, Sam remained the kind of teammate every program needs — reliable, committed and there for his brothers.

Now it’s SENIOR YEAR.

Sam has one goal: make this his best year yet. He’s had a taste of winning before, and he knows exactly how good it feels.

One last season. One more opportunity. And a whole lot left to prove.

Senior Kolbey Siler SENIOR SPOTLIGHT 🏉

Four years. Countless miles. One incredible transformation.

From freshman year to senior year, Kolbey has shown us what hard work looks like when no one is watching.

He committed himself to becoming stronger, healthier, and better — dropping more than 100 pounds along the way. But he didn’t stop there. He became a runner, taking on 5Ks, continuing to push himself toward the next challenge.

What makes his story special isn’t the number on the scale. It’s the discipline behind it. The early mornings. The miles. The practices. The days when quitting would have been easier.

The weight didn’t disappear overnight. It came off one decision, one workout, one mile, and one day at a time.

That same determination is exactly what he has brought to Marian Rugby.

An incredible example to his teammates of what can happen when you decide you want something — and then work for it.

Hard work changes you. Dedication defines you.

Senior Alex Baccoli from Apple Valley, Minnesota starts our welcome week! Alex is All American and two time Academic All American. At the prop position, Alex hard tackler and one of the best teammates on the A side. His mentor and leadership skills are very valuable this year with the largest incoming freshman class in Marian Rugby’s history. Go Knights!
