2026 Spring Shootout recap

What a wild race! So much action around the track and I really hated it for the guys that got their cars tore up. Glad that nobody was beat up too bad with a couple of those hard hits.

For our team, it was a great night! Weren’t really sure of the kind of car we would have for a long run. We somewhat fought the car all day in practice. It had some speed on times, but wasn’t the most friendly to drive. In the race I was pleasantly surprised by how good our car was to some others. Didn’t seem like I could get away from Austin though. Hard to tell how good his car was because I thought he was saving his tires for a long while. Same goes for some of the other top 5. Difficult to tell how hard those guys were pushing. It was definitely a hard fought cousin battle. Happy for him and his team to get the bad luck bug off their back and have a good run.

Didn’t plan on doing it but people were hollering for it. I didn’t realize the magnitude of it and how nervous it would make me. Talk about an icon of the sport and family man that will forever be missed by so many. RIP KFB

Speedrome Nation is saddened to learn of the passing of Hall of Famer Chuck Hargraves. Our deepest thoughts and prayers go out to his extensive family and many friends.

Chuck Hargraves was the patriarch of a storied Speedrome racing family. For several decades, he has supported the generations of his family that fill the pit area each and every weekend.

Chuck’s resume as a driver included time on the ultra-fast oval as well as the Figure 8 course spanning decades from the 1960's to the 1990's. He won the first ever race, a trophy dash, in the division we now call Outlaw Figure 8.

His countless years as a car owner continued all the way into the 2000's and beyond. Besides his family members, the monikers above the driver's door on those cars he owned included Hall of Famers like Thompson, St John, Dossey, Lee, and Tunny just to name a few.

Through his business, Chuck's Race Car Parts, he was the longtime sponsor of the Stock division and to a wealth of racers who have competed here over the years. That profound parts business and the eastside Indianapolis track have gone hand-in-hand for many decades.

Hargraves was the promoter of countless successful demolition derby events at the Speedrome thrilling fans with the crunching of cars, trucks, and even school buses.

He has touched nearly every aspect of the track during his lifetime. Chuck Hargraves loss will effect many and he will certainly be missed. Rest in peace Chuck.

2025 is in the past now, but wanted to share a huge accomplishment from our team. Of the 19 races we ran last year, our average finish was 2.89! There have been other years with more wins, but overall I’d say this was a strong year for us. I feel like we missed out on a couple big races that we had in the bag, but nobody remembers the “what ifs”. Moving on to 2026 and hoping to lower that average even more!
