Great to see the cast of Shrinking and Sesame Street together! We want to make and be friends too. If you need someone to talk with or just be quiet with, we are here for you. Reach out anytime and find a new friend or connection.

During this week, we want to make sure I take time to thank each and every member of EMS for their time and dedication. It is often a thankless job where you see people on their worst days. It carries the weight of the trauma you see day in and day out. We literally owe our lives to you. Thank you!

We will be around all week. Chris is giving the invocation at the Women in Fire Conference on Tuesday. Amy will be in the IFD office on the second floor all week. Come find us or reach out and let us know you're visiting. Let's say hi or grab a coffee.

Secondary trauma is also a concern, when family members and firefighters are going through this together, it can be hard to find grace for each other.

People can't see it from the outside, but trauma survivors' nervous systems are doing like 100X more work than the average person's.

We don't feel permanently burned out for no reasonβ€” under the hood, our engines are ALWAYS redlining. Even when we're supposedly "at rest."

We don't talk a lot about struggling through this holiday season. Probably because it's spring and the days are getting longer. But when you can't find the joy when everyone around you can, it just feels lonely and maybe ungrateful. Don't walk through this alone or quietly. I recently saw a post about how a person won't reach out for help because they don't want anyone to hold it over their head. If you feel this way, reach out. We operate in complete confidentiality. One of our peers won't even approach you in public without your permission. Each one of us has struggled through a time that was "supposed" to be joyful. We want you to know you aren't alone.
