AFGE TSA Local 618
AFGE Local 618 is here to represent and protect the rights of all the officers for TSA Indiana
Good Morning. Been seeing a lot of news about privatizing TSA. What is not being reported is what is true. The Government still pays for it, they would just pay a private contractor.
There’s been a lot of talk about “privatizing TSA,” and a lot of confusion about what that actually means.
Privatizing TSA does not mean the airlines take over security, and it does not mean security goes away.
What it does mean is this:
Airports can apply to use private screening companies instead of federal TSA officers under something called the Screening Partnership Program (SPP). These private companies are still required to follow all TSA policies, procedures, and federal security standards. TSA remains in charge of oversight, regulations, and accountability.
So the uniforms might change—but the rules, requirements, and security expectations do not.
TSA doesn’t disappear. Security doesn’t get handed to airlines. The federal government is still responsible for making sure aviation security is enforced.
The real conversation isn’t “TSA vs no TSA.”
It’s about who is doing the screening—and how consistent, trained, and accountable that workforce is.
Amazing people. When we get funded again, make sure to give them some love back.

TSA Must Honor Workers’ Union Contract, Judge Rules The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest federal employee union representing 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers nationwide and overseas.
The courts granted us the Motion to Enforce the Injunction. So as of now the agency cannot enforce the new determination and we will have to see what they try to do next. But for now we still have a union.
