E-Collars: Misunderstood Tool or Path to Freedom?

Let me be clear—an e-collar in the hands of an untrained person can absolutely be dangerous. But in the hands of someone who knows how to use it? It’s a tool that builds success.

You can’t just strap an e-collar on a dog and expect them to understand. There’s an intentional training process behind it—one rooted in trust, clarity, and consistency.

You’ll never convince me that e-collars have no place in dog training—or that they’re inhumane.

This is Huey, my bulldog mix. Through thoughtful e-collar training, he’s now completely off-leash—and thriving.

No leash. No physical boundaries. Just freedom, earned through hard work and the right tools used the right way.

Look at him—happy, healthy, confident. This isn’t fear. It’s freedom.

The truth? Properly done e-collar training doesn’t suppress dogs—it empowers them!

What do fearful, reactive, aggressive, dog-selective and social dogs all have in common?

They all benefit from structured Place work. 🧠✨

This isn’t just about teaching a dog to ā€œstay.ā€ It’s about helping dogs regulate their emotions, develop impulse control, and learn how to simply exist in shared space—peacefully.

Whether your dog is struggling with reactivity, learning to be neutral around others, or already social but needs more structure… the Place command is a powerful tool in any training plan.

These two dogs come from different behavioral backgrounds, and yet here they are—coexisting calmly and confidently through structure, guidance, and trust.

Training isn’t one-size-fits-all, but structure always has a place. Literally. šŸ˜‰

What it’s like traveling with a client’s dog on a training trip to Texas šŸ¾āœˆļø

Being a travel trainer comes with its own unique challenges—different from board & trains or in-person sessions—but just as rewarding.

This week, I drove to Dallas for a travel training opportunity and decided to bring Boone, one of my recent board & train graduates, back home along the way. What should’ve been a smooth trip turned into an adventure…

At 10:30pm, we ended up stranded on the side of the highway with a flat tire. Boone, who came to me for obedience and confidence-building, handled it like a pro. From loud tow trucks to zooming traffic to sleeping in the rental car overnight—his training truly showed.

The next day, after a second tow and a new rental, Boone impressed everyone at the airport and car rental center. Multiple people commented on how calm and well-behaved he was—even comparing him to a service dog.

After a long trip, we finally made it to Texas, and Boone was reunited with his owner and housemate, Teagan.

Travel training isn’t always smooth—but it builds real-world resilience, for both dogs and trainers.

The Great Crate Debate!
Let’s talk about it!

I hear it all the time:
ā€œCrating is mean!ā€
Meanwhile…the dog is chewing drywall, eating window sills, tearing up furniture, and more!

Let me ask you this:
Why are structure, boundaries, and rules considered cruel?
In my professional and humble opinion — they’re not!

Your dog’s crate should be:
• A safe space
• A cozy place to rest
• A spot to enjoy meals
…and it’s definitely cheaper than an emergency surgery because your pup ate something it shouldn’t!

Want to learn how to crate train your dog the right way and help them feel confident and secure?

DM me to ask about:
• In-person training 🐾
• Board & train šŸ”
• Travel & train options āœˆļø

Let’s build structure that creates freedom!
