Every once in a while, the cobblers children get new shoes. I spent some time this weekend hanging some of my favorite prints in our house.

Hello friends! It is time to reintroduce myself. I am Evan, the owner and printer behind The Rugged Press. I am a graphic designer by day and an artist by night. I was bitten by the "letterpress bug" after taking some classes and seeing these magnificent machines in action. I was hooked. I loved returning to the early roots of design and making art with the limitations of a historic printing press.

One thing led to another, and I purchased my own press. Of course, that press needed some friends, and now we have three. I preserve the art and craft of letterpress printing in my studio in my garage. When not printing or at a show, my husband and I search for new letterpress goodies in antique shops, basements, and garages. I am building a small collection of antique wood and metal fonts, and historic cuts and imagery to use in my print practice.

I am so glad you are here to follow along on this journey!

Ahoy there mates! There be a new print on our store. Argh.

We have been inspired by historic maritime artwork lately and can’t pass up a good pun.

Ahoy! Features a hand-carved clipper ship and uses historic wood and lead type from our collection. It uses dayglo blue ink.
