IUP Bands

Enjoy an afternoon celebrating IUP's 150th with a varied fall concert program from IUP's Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band on Sunday, October 12 at 3pm in Fisher Auditorium.

Pieces include Flying Jewels by James David, Adoration by Florence Price, Concerto for Trumpet by Alexander Arutiunian with trumpet soloist Kevin Morrison, and MEDUSA by Jocelyn Hagen with Libretto by Gretchen E. Henderson. Dr. Erin Koolman, Instructor of Voice at IUP, will be performing the role of a modern day Medusa with ensemble involvement.

The first of our featured performers this week is the Indiana University of PA Marching Band! We are excited to welcome the IUP "The Legend" Marching Band back to the Collegiate Marching Band Festival! You can catch their performance at 3:15pm on September 28.

The University Band will present a program of eclectic works on Tuesday, April 29 at 7:30pm in Fisher Auditorium with an international flare titled Tapestries.
Guest artists include Therese Wacker, piccolo soloist, and Richard Sabino, conductor.
Selections will include “The Girl I Left Behind Me” by Leroy Anderson; “Lyric” by George Walker, arr. Cheldon Williams; “Three Places in England” by Jack Stamp; “Lyric Suite” by Gerald Finzi, arr. Dave is a great person who helps many of us in the bands. If it wasn't for him, our concerts would not run smoothly. Thanks for everything you do Dave!

Congratulations and sincere thanks to Dave Surtasky for 35 years of dedicated service to IUP. Dave graduated from IUP in 1989 and began working for the IUP immediately afterwards. In his role as our Technical Director, he oversees providing seamless technical support of our events for the benefit of our students, faculty, staff, and community. His life behind the scenes isn’t his only talent, he is also a talented musician, playwright, photographer, and is a performer in an international Noh theater company. Dave was honored today at IUP’s employee service awards luncheon. He is pictured with Dr. Curt Sheib, Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, Media, and Public Affairs. Congrats again, Dave!

Registration for the IUP Summer Music Camp is now open!

We’re thrilled to welcome campers back for our fourth annual camp, taking place from June 9-14. The camp is open to rising seventh-graders and high school seniors. We provide lessons and ensembles for all band and orchestra instruments, voice, and piano. In addition to performance opportunities, we offer elective classes in musical theater, ukulele/guitar, conducting, movement/dance, and more! Both residential and commuter options are available. We can’t wait to see you there!

The Midd-West Middle School Band will be joining the IUP Wind Ensemble as part of our recruiting effort. They will be part of rehearsals, sectionals, and a side-by-side concert tomorrow, March 21, at 5pm in Fisher Auditorium!
