1. CHECK POWER & SURGE PROTECTOR (Cost: $1, Time: 2 min):
- Verify outlet works (test with lamp/charger).
- Ensure surge protector is on; reset if needed.
- If dead → Replace surge protector ($40).
- ELSE → Proceed to #2.
2. CHECK ISP OUTAGE (Cost: $5, Time: 10 min):
- Use phone (cellular data) to check Sparklight outage map/service status.
- IF outage → Wait; check hourly until resolved.
- ELSE → Proceed to #3.
3. RESTART DEVICES (Cost: $5, Time: 10 min):
- Unplug modem and Nest router.
- Wait 2 min.
- Plug in modem → wait for ALL lights stable (5 min).
- Plug in Nest router → wait for solid status light (3 min).
- IF internet restored → DONE.
- ELSE → Proceed to #4.
4. INSPECT MODEM LIGHTS (Cost: $2.50, Time: 5 min):
- Normal: Power, Downstream/Upstream locked, Online solid.
- ABNORMAL:
- No power → Replace modem ($100).
- Downstream/Upstream/Online missing → Proceed to #5.
- NORMAL → Proceed to #6.
5. TEST COAXIAL CONNECTIONS (Cost: $7.50, Time: 15 min):
- Tighten coax fittings at wall/modem.
- Swap coax cable ($20).
- IF modem lights normal → Proceed to #6.
- ELSE → Contact ISP for signal test (free; time cost 30 min/$15).
6. TEST NEST ROUTER (Cost: $5, Time: 10 min):
- Connect PC directly to modem via Ethernet.
- IF internet works → Nest router is faulty.
- Factory reset Nest ($0, 15 min/$7.50).
- IF unresolved → Replace Nest router ($150).
- NO internet → Modem is faulty (replace modem, $100).
7. TEST MESH POINTS (Cost: $5, Time: 10 min):
- Only if Wi-Fi broadcasts but has dead zones.
- Power-cycle each point.
- IF unresponsive → Replace point ($120).
8. CONTACT ISP PROVISIONING (Cost: $15, Time: 30 min):
- If all hardware checks pass → Call Sparklight to reprovision modem.
