FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SBA Disaster Assistance Available to Montgomery County Small Businesses and Nonprofits Impacted by Drought
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, KANSAS โ June 11, 2026 โ Montgomery County officials are encouraging eligible small businesses and private nonprofit organizations affected by ongoing drought conditions to apply for federal disaster assistance through the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
The SBA recently announced the availability of low-interest Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) for businesses and nonprofit organizations that have suffered financial losses due to drought conditions beginning February 24, 2026. The disaster declaration includes Montgomery County and Labette County in Kansas, along with several counties in Oklahoma.
The SBA's Economic Injury Disaster Loan program provides working capital assistance to help eligible organizations meet ordinary and necessary financial obligations that cannot be met because of the disaster. Loan funds may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other operating expenses.
Eligible applicants include:
Small businesses
Small agricultural cooperatives
Nurseries
Private nonprofit organizations, including faith-based organizations
Agricultural producers, farmers, and ranchers are generally not eligible, except for small aquaculture enterprises.
Loan amounts of up to $2 million are available, with interest rates as low as 4% for small businesses and 3.625% for private nonprofit organizations. Loan terms may extend up to 30 years, depending on the applicant's financial condition. Interest will not begin accruing, and payments will not be due, until 12 months after the first loan disbursement.
"These loans provide critical financial assistance to help organizations recover from the economic impacts of drought and continue serving our communities," said Chris Stallings, Associate Administrator of the SBA's Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience.
Applications may be submitted online at www.sba.gov/disaster. For additional information, applicants may contact the SBA Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or email [email protected]. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability may dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunications relay services.
The deadline to submit completed loan applications is February 1, 2027.
For questions regarding this announcement, please contact the Montgomery County Emergency Management Office.
