πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Happy Flag Day! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
Today we honor the American flag and all that it represents.

If you have a U.S. flag that is tattered, worn, faded, or torn beyond repair, Hutto Fire Rescue has flag retirement boxes available at Stations 1 & 2. Proper flag retirement is a respectful way to honor our nation’s symbol.

When the boxes are full, the flags are collected by The Richard A Oman American Legion Post 302, so they can be retired with a proper flag retirement ceremony.

Today, our crew from Station 2 joined Hutto ISD Parent & Family Engagement at the Cross Creek Pool for another great morning of summer reading.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to visit with our firefighters. With plenty of room at this stop, we were even able to let the kiddos take a turn on the fire hose and spray some water.

Hutto Fire Rescue is joining the Reading Ready Bus Tour every Tuesday in June, and next week's stop will be at the Emory Crossing Amenity Center. Can't wait to see you there!

On Friday, June 5, Hutto Fire Rescue (WCESD #3) joined Hutto ISD Police Department and several other local agencies for a Mass Casualty Training Exercise.

Here are just a few photos from the exercise showing some of the ways Hutto Fire Rescue personnel participated throughout the day. Since this was a large, multi-agency training event, these images don't capture every aspect of the exercise, but they offer a glimpse into the important work being done to ensure we are always prepared for emergencies.

Training alongside all of our public safety partners helps ensure all responding agencies can work seamlessly during complex incidents and strengthens partnerships to help keep our community safe. We would like to thank Hutto ISD and Hutto ISD Police Department for hosting and coordinating this valuable training opportunity.

Please note that all "patients" shown in these photos were volunteers participating in the exercise, and any injuries depicted were simulated using moulage (special effects makeup) for training purposes.

One of the most important responsibilities of WCESD #3 (Hutto Fire Rescue) is being accountable the residents in our District who fund our services.

As a local government entity, we are committed to making financial and operational information available to the public. From budgets and audits to contracts and board meetings, we believe our community should have easy access to information about how decisions are made and how taxpayer dollars are used.

That commitment has earned WCESD #3 five Transparency Stars from the Texas Comptroller in the following areas:

⭐ Traditional Finances
⭐ Open Government & Compliance
⭐ Debt Obligations
⭐ Contracts & Procurement
⭐ Public Pensions

Transparency helps build trust, promotes accountability, and ensures our community can stay informed about the fire and emergency services that protect them every day.

Funding Facts: Part 3 of 3

Earlier today, we explained where our funding comes from and how property taxes support emergency services. Now, we're taking a look at how Williamson County Emergency Services District #3 (Hutto Fire Rescue) is funded through local sales tax.

We are funded in part through a voter-approved 2% local sales tax in areas outside of the city limits of Hutto, which helps support fire stations, firefighters, equipment, and emergency response operations.

However, WCESD #3 does not receive sales tax revenue from all areas within our jurisdiction. How those sales tax dollars are distributed depends on where a purchase occurs:

πŸ“ WCESD #3 Jurisdiction & Outside Hutto City Limits
β€’ 100% of the local sales tax in that area goes to WCESD #3.
------
πŸ“ Areas Annexed by the City of Hutto Since 2016 (More than 5 acres).
β€’ 60% of the local sales tax goes to the City of Hutto
β€’ 40% of the local sales tax goes to WCESD #3
------
πŸ“ Within the City of Hutto
β€’ 0% of local sales tax goes to WCESD #3.
β€’ Many major retailers, including H-E-B, Home Depot, Lowe's, Academy, Covert and others, are located in this area, meaning purchases made there do not generate local sales tax revenue for WCESD #3.

We hope this helps to provide a clearer understanding of how Hutto Fire Rescue is funded and how those dollars support the services our community relies on every day.

Funding Facts: Part 2 of 3

Earlier today, we shared where Williamson County Emergency Services District #3 (Hutto Fire Rescue) receives funding. Now, we're taking a closer look at the largest funding source: property tax.

The primary funding source for WCESD #3 is a voter-approved property tax. The District's property tax rate is $0.10 per $100 of assessed property value, which is the maximum rate authorized for emergency services districts under the Texas Constitution.

To put that into perspective, the average homeowner in our District paid approximately $7,275 in total property taxes during FY 2024-25. Of that amount, only about $353 went to WCESD #3.

That amount helps fund 24/7 emergency response, fire suppression, rescue services, emergency medical response, fire prevention programs, and the personnel and equipment needed to serve our growing community.

Check back for Part 3, where we'll explain how local sales tax contributes to funding Hutto Fire Rescue.
