The Roller Coaster of Rescue ✨
Rescue is full of heartbreak and hope, often wrapped together in ways we never expect.
Lola arrived at our rescue after being surrendered to a North Alabama shelter with her 2 puppies. Her babies found rescue through the shelter, and we agreed to take sweet Lola. When she arrived, she was painfully engorged from nursing, but despite everything she’d been through, her gentle, loving spirit shined through.
At the same time, one of our volunteers reached out about 3 newborn terrier puppies in desperate need. Their litter was the result of backyard breeding. 8 puppies were born, but tragedy struck when their mother began attacking the litter, and only 3 survived.
Unsafe with their own mother, we carefully introduced the newborns to Lola. Without hesitation, she accepted them as her own.
Watching Lola nurture these tiny babies has been nothing short of incredible. She found purpose when she needed it most, and the puppies found the mother they desperately needed.
Unfortunately, rescue isn’t always the happy ending we pray for. 2 of the 3 puppies, weighing only about 4 ounces, were simply too fragile to survive. Our hearts are broken for the little lives lost.
But 1 tiny fighter remains.
This precious baby girl is gaining weight, growing stronger every day, and thriving under Lola’s tender care. We are cautiously optimistic and hopeful for her future.
What makes this story even more special is knowing that this will be the last puppy Lola ever raises, and this little girl will never become a mother herself. Their paths crossed at exactly the right moment, giving each other something they both needed.
We are still in urgent need of puppy supplies, and we would greatly appreciate your prayers, positive thoughts, and support for Lola and her baby as they continue their journey.
❤️ Lola’s story is just one among many deserving animals. Please visit our website to learn more about what we do, how you can help and about all the amazing animals in our care.

Help Us Feed the Littlest Lives in Our Care ❤️🩹
Right now, our rescue is caring for 3 incredible nursing moms and 24 tiny puppies, with another pregnant mom expected to deliver at any moment. These babies are just getting started in life and they are already surrounded by love, safety, and second chances because of you.
We are also preparing for a major June transport of 60+ additional puppies (and counting) heading north to our rescue partners. That means we are currently supporting 84 hungry, growing puppies who all need daily care, formula, food, and supplies while they wait for their journey.
🐶 We are in urgent need of puppy essentials, including:
* Wet & dry puppy food
* Puppy milk replacer
* Puppy pads
* Any items from our Amazon & Chewy wish lists
📦 Amazon Wishlist: https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/2V2K3AEQDOLZ3?ref=gr_search_page_result
📦 Chewy Wishlist: https://www.chewy.com/g/luna-farms-rescue_b104512231
Even one item makes a real difference for these little lives.
We also want to take a moment to highlight the heart of this work:
For every puppy we are able to save, there are still thousands we cannot reach. This is why spaying and neutering is so critical. It is the only long term way to reduce the overwhelming number of homeless animals entering shelters and rescues every day.
Please spay and neuter your pets. It saves lives.
Thank you for helping us give these puppies the chance they deserve.

Mission Impossible: Puppy Photo Day Edition 🐾📸
Everyone loves seeing adorable puppy photos, but what many people don’t realize is just how important those pictures really are.
For rescue organizations, a great photo is often the very first step toward a puppy’s future. Before a dog ever boards a transport, meets a foster family, or finds an adopter, rescue partners need photos they can share to spark interest and help tell that dog’s story. A single picture can be the difference between being overlooked and being noticed. It helps create that connection from first impression to “I made it.”
Photos tell the story of where a dog has been while opening the door to where they’re going. They give rescue partners the opportunity to showcase each animal’s personality and help potential adopters see what we already know. That these puppies are worthy of love, safety, and a forever home.
Of course, there’s one small problem. The puppies don’t always cooperate. 😅
Mission: Photograph 5 active, curious puppies in a way that captures their individual personalities and undeniable adorableness.
Strategy:
✅ Recruit an assistant
✅ Bring lots of toys
✅ Tire puppies out beforehand
✅ Make embarrassing high-pitched noises
✅ Take approximately 1,001 photos while chasing wiggly bundles of fur
✅ Edit the 5 usable pictures you managed to get
✅ Admire your accomplishment
✅ Collapse from exhaustion
Was it worth it? Absolutely.
Because later this month, these puppies will be heading to Wright-Way Rescue, where those photos will help them find foster families and adopters waiting to welcome them home.
And that’s why we’ll gladly take photo number 1,002. ❤️🐶

We ended May with a bang! 🐾
This week alone, the trajectory of 62 lives changed forever. From homeless and unwanted to safe, loved, and chosen.
Rescue is never a single person effort. Every dog who finds safety has an entire team behind them: the good samaritans who stop to help, shelter staff and volunteers who care for them, veterinary partners who provide medical care, foster families who open their homes, rescue partners who say “yes,” transporters who bridge the miles, and adopters who give them the happy ending they deserve.
This week, 38 dogs began the next chapter of their journey with 10 trusted rescue partners across 5 transport carriers and 4 different cities. As transport vans loaded up with puppies and dogs headed toward brighter futures, 14 new faces arrived for us to get to know and love. Some of our volunteer drivers even brought more dogs back than they took to transport. We call that rescue math and we love it. And perhaps the best part is that 10 animals got to say “I MADE IT”!
3 adoptions were finalized right here in Alabama, and 7 more found forever families through Luna Farms PA. 10 dogs who no longer have to wonder where they’ll sleep, who will feed them, or whether they’ll be loved.
As we turn the page to June, we’re excited to see how many more lives we can save together ❤️🩹

From Abandoned to Adored: Quest’s Journey to Safety ❤️🩹
Just a few short weeks ago, Quest was one of five dogs left to survive on their own in a rural area near Bowdon, Georgia, close to the Alabama border. For two weeks, the pack stayed together in the same area where they were most likely abandoned, relying on the kindness of strangers to survive.
Two compassionate samaritans, Jo and Jen, stepped in to feed the dogs twice a day while help was being sought. When animal control brought the dogs into the shelter, time was limited. One of the males stood out immediately, he had an incredibly friendly personality despite everything he had endured.
After testing heartworm negative, Quest got the second chance he deserved. Thanks to our rescue partners at Motley Mutts, he quickly secured a safe place to go and is now beginning a new chapter filled with love, comfort, and security.
While we’re celebrating Quest’s happy ending, several of his former packmates are still waiting for their chance. If you or a rescue organization may be able to help one of the remaining dogs still needing a safe placement, please reach out to Pinhoti Rescue here: https://www.facebook.com/share/1Feoevb4hT/?mibextid=wwXIfr
Together, we can turn more stories of abandonment into stories of hope. ❤️🐶

Sometimes rescue begins with a single call for help. 📲
This week, HAS reached out about a frightened mama dog and her seven newborn puppies who needed a safe place to land and we were honored to answer that call.
Now this sweet family is settling into a quiet, loving environment where mom can finally rest and her babies can grow safely surrounded by care. Moments like this are only possible because of the incredible support within the rescue community.
While these puppies are still too young, mama is already showing us how resilient and loving rescue dogs can be. From scared and uncertain to slowly learning she’s safe, her journey is a reminder that adoptable dogs simply need compassion, patience, and a place to belong.
We are so grateful to everyone who helps make stories like this possible: fosters, volunteers, transporters, adopters, and supporters who continue to show up for animals in need. Together, we change lives.
⭐️ Want to help? We are always in need of puppy supplies and donations to help families like this one receive the care they deserve. As a rescue focused on giving homeless animals a better chance at adoption through transport partnerships up north, our weeks revolve around preparing dogs for their next journey toward forever homes.
By Wednesday, it’s health certificate day. One of the most important steps in the transport process. Most of our transports leave Thursday and Friday from Athens, Decatur, Fort Payne, and Gurley, carrying dogs who are about to begin a brand new chapter of their lives.
What many people don’t see is everything happening behind the scenes. While it may look like rescue “slows down” after transport leaves, the work never really stops. The days in between are filled with intakes, networking, vet appointments, promoting adoptable dogs, paperwork, coordinating fosters, arranging transport logistics, and preparing for the next group of pups needing a second chance.
Health certificates themselves are a critical part of rescue transport. These exams, performed by licensed veterinarians, ensure every dog traveling across state lines is healthy, vaccinated, and safe to enter their receiving state. Requirements often include DHPP, Bordetella, Rabies, and sometimes Lepto vaccines depending on the destination state.
The paperwork involved takes hours, often much longer than the exams themselves, but every form signed and every vaccine given helps protect not only our dogs. But every animal they may encounter along the way.
And none of this would be possible without our incredible veterinary partners, Dr. Gregg Able and Dr. Stephanie O’Brien. Their dedication allows us to continue moving homeless animals on to brighter, safer futures and into loving homes.
Every transport means another dog gets seen.
Another dog gets a chance.
Another dog gets a future. 🐶
Thank you to everyone who supports rescue, our fosters, adopters, transporters veterinary teams, donors, and advocates. It truly takes a team.
