Madison County volunteers help grandparents caring for child with special needs 05/26/2026

We’ve shared Reina’s story a few times recently, but we appreciated this article from 256 Today for highlighting another often-overlooked perspective: caregivers.

While the story began with a wheelchair ramp for our 7-year-old client, it is also about grandparents navigating the daily physical and emotional responsibilities of caregiving. At Enable Madison County, caregivers are often a major part of our client communication, care coordination, and ongoing support systems.

It’s a reminder that the impact of services like ramps, fall prevention, deliveries, and weatherization often extends beyond the individual client. These services also support the family members and caregivers, helping loved ones remain safely at home.

Thank you to 256 Today for sharing this side of the story and to the volunteers from the Redstone Arsenal Silver Chapter of the US Army Warrant Officer Association who helped make the project possible.

Madison County nonprofit builds ramp for 7-year-old girl with brain injury 05/21/2026

We are grateful to WAAY-TV 31 News for sharing the story behind a recent wheelchair ramp build completed by Enable Madison County volunteers and the Redstone Arsenal Silver Chapter of the US Army Warrant Officer Association

While we shared photos from the build, this story highlights the deeper impact for 7-year-old Reina, a Madison County resident, living with a traumatic brain injury. Because she relies entirely on her grandparents for mobility and daily care, the new ramp now gives her grandparents a safer, easier way to get her in and out of the home each day, reducing physical strain while making daily routines safer and more manageable.

We are also deeply thankful to the Alexander family for allowing us to share their story and helping shine a light on the importance of accessibility, caregiving, and community support.

A ramp repair can mean the difference between isolation and independence for the residents we serve.

This week, volunteers came together to repair a wheelchair ramp for an aging resident in Madison County, making their home safer and easier to navigate once again.

Not every act of service is a brand-new build. Sometimes it’s maintaining what already exists so someone can continue living safely, confidently, and with dignity at home.

A few weeks back, the team from Legacy Homes spent the day building a wheelchair ramp for a homebound and aging Madison County resident.

Because of community partners like Legacy Homes, residents are able to navigate their homes more safely and maintain independence where it matters most, at home.

Thank you to the Legacy Homes team for showing up, serving, and helping make a lasting impact one ramp at a time. 💙

A ramp changes more than access, it changes daily life. 💙

Recently, Enable Madison County partnered with volunteers from the Redstone Arsenal Silver Chapter of the US Army Warrant Officer Association to build a wheelchair ramp for a 7-year-old girl living with a traumatic brain injury and being raised by her grandparents.

What was once a difficult and physically demanding challenge for her family is now a safer, easier path in and out of their home.

This is what community looks like.
Volunteers showing up.
Supporters making projects possible.
Residents gaining safety, dignity, and independence.

Thank you to every volunteer, donor, and partner who helps make moments like this possible.

Sometimes the best moments happen after the work is done 🩵

During their final visit to the Enable Madison County Garden for the school year, the Sparkman High School Learning Community gathered with our staff for a pizza party, conversation, and time together.

Over the year, these students helped grow fresh produce for aging and homebound residents across Madison County, while also becoming a valued part of the Enable family.

We’re grateful for their service, their kindness, and the joy they brought to the garden this year.
