Just a reminder that we are a domestic rabbit rescue and not licensed for or able to take in wild rabbits (as shown). This is not us simply refusing: it is actually illegal for us to do so.

Meet Biscuit! This baby bunny loves affection and will absolutely eat it all up! Biscuit is one of our new rescues and is incredibly social and sweet. He loves people and enjoys head pets! Isn’t he the cutest?! 😍

Meet Wesley! This sweetheart is one of our most cuddly bunnies and loves to be the center of attention. Isn’t he gorgeous? Wesley loves toy cars and gentle petting. He will never get tired of attention. He’s now fully adoptable and looking for his forever home! ❤️🐰

Spayed 5 year old bunny needs a place to go! Her person is entering a medical program and will not be returning. She currently has nowhere to go, and we have no foster spots (even emergency spots are filled)!

Unexpected surprise and foster needed! A bunny was rescued in a grocery store parking lot after being dumped there, near Birmingham. We are currently working with the Good Samaritan who has been relentlessly trying to find a safe place for this bunny. We are so thankful for her!!

Midsummer Market was such a wonderful day. We met so many amazing people, answered rabbit questions, and loved spending time with our community.

But one interaction has weighed heavily on our hearts.

Near the end of the event, someone came to us asking if we could take their rabbits because they could no longer care for them.

We wish we could have said yes.

The reality is that Huntsville House Rabbits is completely volunteer and foster based, and right now our foster homes are full with rabbits from abandonment, neglect, and abuse situations. We simply do not have room to safely take in more rabbits at this time.

So we did what we always do.

We offered help.

We explained responsible rehoming. We shared affordable spay and neuter resources. We talked through options. We offered guidance, support, and a path forward.

A little while later, we found the rabbits listed for sale online. The post mentioned they were out of food.

Had we known that, we would have solved that problem immediately.

We reached out, offered free food and supplies, and waited for them to come back before we packed up.

They never did.

That bag of food sat on our table, untouched.

This post isn't meant to shame anyone.

It's a reminder that rescue doesn't always look like taking a rabbit into one of our foster homes. Sometimes rescue looks like helping an owner keep the promise they made to their rabbit.

If you need help responsibly rehoming, ask.

We may not always have an open foster home, but we will always do everything we can to help before a rabbit ends up paying the price.

Because rabbits are completely dependent on us.

They deserve nothing less.

Sometimes happy endings come with a few tears first.

This weekend, one of our volunteers was scrolling through Facebook when they stopped in their tracks.

There was a familiar little face on the Decatur Animal Services page. The name listed was Piccolo.

Our Piccolo.

Piccolo had been fostered through us and was later adopted by her foster family. As far as we knew, she was still happily settled into her forever home. Seeing her in an animal shelter was something we never expected.

The good news is that Piccolo is now safely back in our care. We are incredibly grateful to the volunteer who recognized them and to everyone who helped make sure they found their way back to us.

While we’re thankful this story has a happy ending, our hearts are still heavy.

Life changes. Circumstances change. We understand that sometimes families face situations where they can no longer keep a beloved rabbit. There is no judgment in that.

What does break our hearts is when one of our rabbits ends up in a shelter instead of coming home to the rescue.

Every rabbit adopted through Huntsville House Rabbits comes with a promise: if you can no longer care for them, for any reason and at any time, we will always take them back. There is no expiration date on that promise. No questions. No shame. Just a safe place for them to land and lifelong support.

Shelters work incredibly hard for the animals in their care, but rabbits have very specialized needs, and we are equipped to provide the care, housing, and placement they deserve while we find them another loving home.

If you have adopted from us and find yourself in a situation where keeping your bunny is no longer possible, please reach out. We are here to help. We would much rather welcome one of our rabbits back with open arms than discover them unexpectedly in a shelter, or worse.

Today, we’re simply grateful that Piccolo’s story ends where it should: safe, loved, and back with family. In fact, she’s even been reunited with one of her brothers, Ricotta.
