This shot was harder than it looks; not because of shutter speed or positioning, but bc every 👏 single 👏 thing 👏 shows up with this lighting, on the glass, and the black reflective surface (black glass)!

If you heard the "we threw the ice cube so hard the glass shattered" story from our splash set, this is that same setup. We call this room "the dark room" because truly no light gets in, it's fairly large space with concrete floors so we have a lot of flexibility with setups and can get messy. It's one of those corners that once we dialed it in, we leave pretty well as-is; not a lot of shoots really call for it, but when they do - ohhhh it's good 📸🍒

These incoming -20 degree windchills are about to put all of the preparation to the test! 🧊 So far, the snows and temps have been quite manageable, but 20 and 30 degrees above zero is a LOT warmer than the arctic air rushing towards us. To reiterate: that's a drop of FIFTY degrees in real feel! This winter is already doing as predicted... it's going to be a wild few months of this!

Portable power pack

Pocket knife

Flashlight

Ready at home (mostly for if we lose power):
Extra water
Portable power station
Electric heater
Painter's tape and sheets ready (the living room is almost all windows - this helps with heat retention)
Extra blankets
Extra animal food and water
Flashlights and candles
Gas for the snow blower
Pet-safe sidewalk salt
All the winter gear and layers we need to be able to come and go and do (minimal) outdoor chores!

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things 😉

Still need to paint the trim, but I've got two outdoor painting projects (big mural and an itty one), Smiley Face Media client work, and more winter prep that takes priority over any cosmetic bits on the homestead. Clock is tickin'! No eggs yet but that's to be expected - soon enough. Homesteaders/ gardeners/ farmers know - the patience. THE PATIENCE! It is truly meditative, if you allow it to be. Good things take time 💖🕰☮🐓🥚

Favorite things to grow? Pretty much anything you can't find in a grocery store 😏😅
