The Forgotten Ones is a non-profit organization that helps the aged out foster children, who they lovingly call the Forgotten Ones; get a second chance at a life they deserve. The Forgotten Ones Project was started by 4 sisters and their beloved bother, who believe that every child deserves to have a loving and nurturing life full of love and laughter. Some of the Forgotten Ones never get this cha
The 1st MacKenzie House project's progress these are of the dining room area. My neice Liliana once again helped. With this project Home Depot had some slightly damaged plywood for the floors about 17 sheet in total and we got them at a very good price. So we were able to use them for the subfloor. The room still needs some work but the subfloor is almost done now and dry wall almost completely done too. We have been doing all this work ourselves and it is so rewarding because we know in time it is going to be used to help so many children aging out of the foster care system.
The 1st MacKenzie House project is still underway even after 2 years. All the work is being done by family friends and volunteers. The goal is to get her ba k to her once beautiful glory and even better than she was before. From doing pier and beam foundation repairs to the interior workings she is slowly coming back. We have been working on the foundation need help with that. It is only me at this time paying for the materials and let's face it in today's economy pay check to pay check it is not easy to to squeeze enough out for projects like this. I am not giving up. Here are some pictures of our progress. These are of the kitchen so far. House still needs to be level again before new windows can be put in.

The 1st purchase for The Forgotten Ones Project. We will use this home to start the journey to helping the children that age out of the foster care system. The home was built in 1900, which was the 1st home built on the block. This is the before picture. Be for I mowed the lawn myself. This home needs alot of work And I will get it done. If you would.like to lend a hand in the repairs please let me know. When it is finished and back to the beautiful self it once was and more, it will be used to get a home equity line of credit to purchase more and do the same thing to. This way we can start helping the kids.
We have some great news and some bad news, but at the end of the day it is all good. The bad news is the Wyckoff Castle on Carlton Island, New York, has been purchased. Good thing is it will get it's chance to become something else quite amazing. It will become a bed & breakfast, which could not be a better idea. If you would like to follow the Renovation on the Wyckoff Castle follow them at their page. https://www.facebook.com/CarletonVilla
More good news is we have purchased the very first property, that will help us create more housing for the aging out foster children. Photographs will be posted of the first property, and its transition back to what it once was. It was built in 1900 and is the 1st home to be built on the block in Huntington, West Virginia.

That is what the forgotten ones project is all about helping the aging out foster children become something absolutely amazing in life so that they don’t become another statistic in this world that’s gone crazy.

I often wonder if any descendants of Mr. William Wyckoff the original owner are still alive. I also wonder if they could help in our crusade to save the long standing jewel of the St. Lawrence River. ~ Kathereen Abbiegayle Shafer
