The Humble Museum has spent nearly half a century preserving the story of its community—and its journey is just as fascinating as the history it holds.

It all began in 1976, when the museum first opened as the Humble Bicentennial Museum, born out of the city’s celebration of America’s 200th birthday. Its original home sat along Higgins Street, just west of the railroad tracks—a fitting place to begin telling Humble’s story.

By the late 1980s, the museum found a new home in the former Centel Telephone building on Main Street, expanding its presence on the east side of town. But nature had other plans. When Hurricane Harvey struck in 2017, the building suffered significant damage, forcing the museum to close its doors.
The story didn’t end there.

In 2019, the City of Humble gave the museum a fresh start, transforming the old band hall at Charles Bender High School into its new home. By March 2020, the museum’s collection had moved in—just days before the world shut down due to COVID-19.

After months of careful work designing and building new exhibits, the Humble Museum officially reopened on November 14, 2020—stronger than ever, and ready to continue sharing the rich history of Humble for generations to come.
