November is National Family Caregivers Month – a time to celebrate the contributions of caregivers, provide them with the support they need, and continue to advocate for the loved ones they cherish. Over 53 million Americans are unpaid caregivers to family, friends, and neighbors. Caregiving can often have a significant impact on the life of the caregiver in more ways than one. Remember that you can only take good care of others when you are taking care of yourself. This month, we hope you make time for self-care and a well-deserved recharge.

To be successful with therapies, we believe that the entire family must be involved, but we prioritize self-care. We want to make sure we are taking care of YOU so that you can do your part in therapy. Through training, parents can help their children accomplish goals and practice skills outside of normal therapy sessions.
Our goal is to ensure that the treatment plan we implement is reasonable for the entire family. Everything is planned to be immersed into your natural environment. We strive to help caregivers use strategies that will allow them to find equal time for all members of their family, including themselves, while also decreasing emotional strain on the family.

Have you recently discovered your child may have a learning difference?
The best thing you can do is openly discuss your child's learning disability with both them and their teachers, ensuring that everyone is on the same page. To help educate your child in regards to their difficulties, there are plenty of books and resources — many of which celebrate children who simply learn differently.
This is also a great time to read the latest studies on these disorders, sharing information with other parents, as well as your child's educators.

In October, we recognize Learning Disabilities Awareness Month. This month is an opportunity for us all to show our support of, and appreciation for, those who learn and think differently. It is a chance to celebrate who these individuals are and all they contribute, while gaining a better understanding of the ways in which they learn differently. Being open about these differences is the first step to a more open and accepting society.
