Great job by our members on the Midnight Squad. Our PBA has a long history of being highly trained and ready to respond to apprehend criminals at any time of day…..even 3AM! A great display of dedication and teamwork. If you commit crime in Howell it will be all hands on deck to apprehend you!

Arrest Notification - vehicle burglary and handgun with 50 round drum magazine: At around 3:00 am this morning officers on the Midnight Shift responded to the area of Lorelei Dr and Virginia Dr on the report of someone actively burglarizing a vehicle. Ptl Dan Davison was first to arrive in the area and made contact with the suspect. The suspect observed Ptl Davison and immediately fled on foot. Davison pursued the suspect on foot through the backyards and over several fences. Ptl Ryan Goodspeed joined the foot pursuit and Davison and Goodspeed were able to apprehend and secure the suspect. Lt Antunez, Sgt Homiek and Officers Maccia, Reed, Jackson and Perez arrived on scene and set up a perimeter to secure the scene and begin to locate potential victims. They learned that several vehicles in the area had been burglarized. They also viewed ring video footage of some of the crimes in progress and found that another actor was involved in the incidents. The officers then began searching for the additional suspect. Howell Police K9 was also called to the scene to assist. Ptl Maccia located the detained subject's vehicle parked close to the area of the burglaries. He noted that the windows to the vehicle were down and further observed a handgun with an extended capacity magazine on the floorboard of the vehicle. Maccia reached in to the vehicle to retrieve the handgun and secure it. The handgun was noted to be a "ghost gun" with a 50 round capacity drum magazine. The vehicle was secured and towed from the scene. A search warrant will be sought to search the vehicle for proceeds from the burglaries.

Ptl Jerry Perez located a subject that matched the description of the second wanted person involved with the vehicle burglaries within the perimeter that was set up. Officers were able to use surveillance video to confirm the person they had detained was in fact the second person connected to the crimes.

Antonio C Thompson II 22 year old male from Trenton was arrested and charged with several counts of burglary, weapons offenses, obstruction and resisting arrest. He was lodged at Monmouth County Jail.

The second subject was a 15 year old male from Trenton and he was charged with several counts of burglary and weapons offenses. The juvenile was placed in Middlesex County Youth Detention Facility.

"As this matter is ongoing, it’s important to remember that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law."

The Howell Township PBA has lost yet another member of our extended family. Sorrow doesn’t exactly capture all we feel surrounding the passing Dr. Hal Ornstein. He was more than a supporter of our organization, he was a participant. Along with Jimmy Kirk and Gene Young, Hal was a founding member of our Vest and Safety Fund, he was a long time coordinator of our Dinner Dance Auction, and he was our official/unofficial PBA photographer.

But his impact extended beyond his actions to the example he set for us and others. He was one of the most giving, kind, and selfless people I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing and he impacted so many people in so many ways.

I’d like this post to turn into a celebration of Hal’s life. So if you took the time to read this far please take a couple more minutes to share a memory and/or photo you have of your time with Hal.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Ornstein Family, especially to Anna, Zack, and Tyler as they try to find meaning and peace through loss.

Our members had a busy week in all our divisions.

Members of the professional development group along with the patrol division had a day of rifle training to improve skills. Our members in patrol are committed to training and improvement, highly trained professionals ready to respond to any incident.

Community services held Pizza with a cop and Coffee with a cop events, strengthening the bond between our members and the citizens of Howell.

The Detective bureau gave a presentation on the prevention and enforcement of financial crimes that occur within our town.

And finally, in partnership with our law enforcement partners a subject was arrested in Georgia for carjacking. Our members do not accept crime in Howell. Even if you flee to Georgia we will not give up and will work with our law enforcement partners to bring you to justice.
