You may not know, but Michigan has more than a dozen balloon festivals during the summer months and each of them promises fun, hot air balloons, and oodles of color. There’s something that’s both peaceful and amazing about seeing a hot air balloon in flight, soaring majestically as its colors pop on a warm summer day.

Downtown Howell has filled their 2023 event calendar with a huge line-up of community events.

A few highlights this summer:

Starting in May, a food truck rally will take place on the 2nd Tuesday of every month

The 2023 Michigan Challenge Balloonfest will take place from Friday, June 23rd through Sunday the 25th.

The 2023 Howell Melon festival will take place from Friday, August 18th through Sunday, August 20th.

Also on deck is the Rock the Block concert series and weekly Sunday Farmers' Market.

The Howell Social District is also open year-round from 11am to 10pm, 7 days a week, where alcohol consumption is allowed in the designated downtown social boundaries.

City of Howell Offers Packed 2023 Calendar of Events A busy summer is planned for the City of Howell.

The Michigan Challenge Balloonfest returns for 2021 with over 40 pilots competing for the state championship. This year, balloons will launch at undisclosed location but fill the sky around downtown Howell where families can find fun activities including live entertainment at Summit Gardens and activities throughout the downtown. Balloons will launch after 7pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Head out earlier in the day and take a visit to the Howell Nature Center. It is one of our favorite places to visit animals, take a nature walk and let the children run around the playground – the treehouse forts and canopy walks are pretty cool for parents and kids alike!
