Houston storms aren’t just about heavy rain and strong winds; they can also cause costly electrical damage to your home, especially your HVAC system. If you’ve ever experienced flickering lights or a sudden power outage during a storm, your heating and cooling equipment may have been at risk without you even realizing it.

How Storms Impact Your HVAC System

When severe weather hits, power surges and outages often follow. A power surge is a sudden spike in electricity that can overwhelm your system’s electrical components. Your HVAC unit, particularly the compressor and control board, is highly sensitive to these fluctuations.

-Compressors can overheat or fail when hit with a surge
-Control boards can short-circuit, leading to expensive repairs or full system replacement
-Repeated outages can wear down components over time, even if the damage isn’t immediate

In a storm-prone area like Houston, this risk is significantly higher during peak storm seasons.

Why Surge Protection Matters

Surge protection acts as a shield for your HVAC system. It prevents excess voltage from reaching critical components, helping to avoid sudden failures and costly repairs.

Installing surge protection can:

-Extend the lifespan of your HVAC system
-Reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns
-Protect one of the most expensive systems in your home

Think of it as insurance for your comfort, especially during unpredictable weather.

Protect Your Investment

Your HVAC system is essential to keeping your home comfortable year-round. Without proper protection, a single storm could lead to major damage and unexpected expenses.

Learn about HVAC surge protection options and take the first step toward safeguarding your system before the next Houston storm rolls in.

When a Houston homeowner called Hage Energy, their system was running but not performing. Our technician found the culprit quickly: a contaminated blower assembly and a fouled evaporator coil.

What We Did

We removed the blower assembly completely and chemically cleaned the wheel and housing, restoring the blade surfaces so the system could move air the way it was designed to. A dirty blower wheel disrupts airflow, unbalances the wheel, and forces the motor to work harder for worse results.

Next, we chemically cleaned the evaporator coil. Buildup on the coil acts as insulation, blocking heat and moisture transfer and making the system run longer than it should.

We also resecured the blower door insulation, which had come loose; a small detail that directly impacts efficiency.

The Result

Once reassembled and powered up, the system came up operating normally. A 47°F reading at the plenum box confirmed the system was removing heat and humidity efficiently.

If your system is running but struggling to keep up, buildup inside the blower or coil may be the reason.

Call Hage Energy. We'll find what's costing you efficiency and fix it.

If your AC stopped working in a Houston summer, don't panic. The problem might be simpler than you think: it could just be your capacitor.

What Is a Capacitor?

A capacitor is a small component inside your AC unit that delivers the electrical jolt needed to start your compressor and fan motors every time the system kicks on. Without it, your AC can't run.

Signs It's Failing

-Warm air blowing from your vents
-Humming or buzzing from the outdoor unit
-Slow startups or short cycling
-Unit won't turn on at all

Why It Can't Wait

Houston's heat puts extra strain on capacitors, shortening their lifespan. Worse, a failing capacitor forces your compressor to overwork, turning a small repair into a costly one if ignored.

What to Expect

Capacitor replacement is one of the fastest HVAC repairs there is. A technician can diagnose and replace it in under an hour.

Call Us Today

Not sure if your capacitor is the problem? Our technicians will test it in minutes and give you a straight answer: no guesswork, no upsells. Let's get your AC running right.

Your thermostat says 72°F, but your home still feels sticky, heavy, and uncomfortable. Sound familiar? You're not alone; the problem might not be your AC.

In Houston, true comfort is about humidity control, not just temperature. When humidity is high, the air holds more moisture and feels warmer than your thermostat actually reads. A home set to 72°F can easily feel like 76°F or more during humid conditions.

This leads many homeowners to keep lowering the thermostat to compensate, which only drives up energy bills and puts unnecessary strain on the HVAC system, without solving the real issue.

The good news? When indoor humidity is properly balanced, your home feels cooler, lighter, and more comfortable, even at slightly higher thermostat settings. That means less stress on your AC and lower energy costs.

If your home feels warmer than your thermostat suggests, humidity is likely the culprit. Don't keep fighting the thermostat, fix the real problem.

Contact us today to learn about whole-home humidity solutions that work alongside your HVAC system and keep your home truly comfortable all season long. Your comfort starts with one call.

Memorial Day and Your AC: Don't Wait for the Heat

Every year on the last Monday of May, we pause to honor the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who died in service to this country. Memorial Day is not a generic celebration of all veterans: that's Veterans Day. It is a day of mourning and remembrance, rooted in the Civil War tradition of decorating the graves of fallen soldiers.

Take a moment this weekend to reflect on their sacrifice. The freedom to spend a warm May afternoon with the people you love is exactly what they were protecting.

Is Your AC Ready for Summer?

Memorial Day also signals something else here in Houston: the start of your air conditioners hardest months. Triple-digit temps, relentless humidity, and weeks of around-the-clock cooling are just around the corner. The worst time to discover a problem with your AC is the middle of a heat wave.

A spring maintenance visit gives a trained technician the chance to catch small issues before they become expensive ones. That means cleaning the coils, checking refrigerant levels, inspecting electrical components, clearing the drain line, and making sure airflow and filters are in good shape; everything your system needs to perform reliably all summer long.

The payoff is real: lower energy bills, fewer breakdowns, and a system that lasts. A well-maintained AC can run for 15–20 years. A neglected one rarely makes it that far.

Schedule your maintenance visit today before the heat hits and our calendar fills up.

Happy Memorial Day from the team at Hage Energy. Wishing you a safe and meaningful weekend.

If your air conditioner keeps needing more refrigerant, it’s a clear sign that something isn’t right. Unlike fuel in a car, a properly functioning HVAC system should not lose refrigerant over time.

Why Low Refrigerant Is a Problem

Refrigerant is the lifeblood of your AC system. It absorbs heat from your home and carries it outside, allowing your system to cool effectively. When refrigerant levels drop, your system can’t cool properly and must work harder to maintain comfort.

Low refrigerant usually indicates a leak somewhere in the system. Simply adding more refrigerant without finding and fixing the leak is a temporary fix; your system will continue to lose refrigerant, performance will suffer, and energy bills can rise.

Signs of Low Refrigerant

· AC runs longer than usual without reaching the desired temperature

· Reduced cooling capacity

· Ice forming on the evaporator coil or the outside compressor and copper lines

· Higher energy bills

Left unchecked, low refrigerant can damage the compressor, one of the most expensive components of your HVAC system.

Protect Your System

The only way to properly address low refrigerant is to locate and repair the leak, then recharge the system to manufacturer specifications. This ensures your AC operates efficiently, reliably, and safely.

Book a professional leak evaluation today to protect your system, restore performance, and avoid repeat refrigerant issues.
