The Miller Outdoor Theatre has released its events calendar for this season. And while we have to wait until September-October for the signature events celebrating Latino and Chicano cultures (to mark national Hispanic Heritage Month), the summer months are alive with the music, dance and theater pieces of the rich cultures that are woven into the fabric of Houston.
It’s always a great, free, family-friendly way to spend a night under the stars — as long as you remember a cold beverage and mosquito repellent!
The Hispanic Heritage-themed programs include El Grito, the annual celebration of Mexico’s Independence on Sept. 15, with Mariachi Herencia de Mexico in the spotlight, along with 3 nights (and 3 headliners) for the 47th annual Festival Chicano, Oct 1-2-3, including Marcos Orozco, David Lee Garza y los Musicales, and Little Joe Y La Familia.
Check the schedule below ⬇️ for dates and times, info about when to line up for free seating in the covered area, and which performances will be live-streamed.

🥇A new honor for a hero: The Houston City Council voted today to rename Cesar Chavez Boulevard after Army M/Sgt. Joe E. “Chaco” Ramirez, a Korean War hero and Prisoner of War. The new name will take effect in 30 days.
Ramirez was shot and captured during his war service, spending 3 years in captivity before returning to his family in Houston, where he lived in Magnolia Park.
