Collaborative for Children
We are a nonprofit with a mission to improve the quality of early childhood education. Our core beliefs and values shape who we are as an organization.
They’re behind everything we do, and they bring us closer to fulfilling our mission each day. COLLABORATION
There are many different people who shape our children’s success and all are an important part of our work. Together, we are investing in our area’s future, accomplishing more than we ever thought we could alone. TRANSPARENCY

It’s easy to think the big lessons come from what we say. But most of what children learn comes from what they see. How we handle stress, talk through mistakes, and how we show kindness in small moments. Those patterns quietly become theirs. The way you show up today is shaping who they become tomorrow.
When child care centers transform into true early learning environments, everyone benefits. Centers partnering with Collaborative for Children are seeing revenue increases from $20,000 to $60,000 a month, enrollment growth of up to 15%, and an incredible 95% shift from operating at a loss to earning positive revenue. For years, Dolly Parton has put books into children's hands through the Imagination Library, helping millions of young readers discover the joy of opening a book and finding a whole new world inside.
Thank you, Dolly, for reminding us that literacy opens doors to opportunity, imagination, and endless possibilities for every child.
"You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children." - Dolly Parton

Our President and CEO, Dr. Melanie Johnson, stresses that early childhood education shapes lifelong success. By age five, 90% of brain development is complete, making these years crucial. Children who start kindergarten behind rarely catch up, leading to low literacy rates where fewer than 60% of third graders read at grade level, and 93% who struggle continue to fall behind. Early investment is key. Help change this trajectory by supporting Collaborative for Children and investing in brighter futures.

Want a simple way to boost your child's brainpower? Turn up the classical music! Just 20 minutes of listening can promote changes in the brain that support learning and development, according to research from the University of Helsinki. Whether it's Bach during playtime or Mozart before bed, music isn't just soothing; it's smart.
