If you claimed EIC or CTC, your refund is now moving through the system

Here are the IRS transcript codes you need to understand:

✅ 846 – Refund Issued (Your money is on the way!)
⚠️ 971 – Notice Issued (IRS is sending you a letter)
🔎 420 – Examination (Return selected for review)

Seeing codes on your transcript doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong — you just need to know what they mean.

If you claimed EIC/CTC, this is the time to:
✔️ Check “Where’s My Refund”
✔️ Pull your IRS transcript
✔️ Make sure there are no delays

The first official IRS refund date for the 2026 tax season is February 11, 2026.

If you did NOT claim:
✔️ Earned Income Credit (EIC)
✔️ Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC)
✔️ Child Tax Credit (CTC)

You can start checking “Where’s My Refund” to see if the IRS has issued your direct deposit date.

If you did claim those credits, your refund will be held due to the PATH Act, and the IRS cannot release those refunds until after the hold period lifts.

TAX FACTS with MaxTax

If you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), the IRS expects most refunds to be available or at least a date by March 2, 2026, as long as there are no issues and you chose direct deposit.

If you did NOT claim EITC or ACTC, refunds may arrive earlier, often within 21 days after acceptance.
