More than 20 of our STEM students got to visit the Houston Museum of Natural Science this summer, most of them for the very first time! The animal exhibits were a crowd favorite.
Our student Asende had this to say:
āI liked viewing all the different elements of the museum and showing my siblings as well. I liked that they were able to view things and experience things outside of what they usually see and know.ā

As part of our collaborative work with Harris County Public Health, our WEG members participated in a nutrition class and a fun cooking demonstration! Leaders from had this to say:
āIt was an exciting and unique experience to be able to educate in Swahili! We had an interactive discussion on the overview of the US food environment and the importance of making healthy food choices.Ā In addition, we had a cooking demonstration where the participants learned a new recipe and how the use of spices can both flavor and provide healthĀ benefits.Ā It was a warm and engaging class, and weāre looking forward to another session!ā

What an incredible Bingo night for 2026! The FAM community showed up in so many ways: the spirit of joyĀ in the room, the delight of familiar friends alongsideĀ new faces, and the generosity propelling us past our fundraising goal for a total of $37,421 raised! Thanks to everyone who volunteered, planned, donated, shared their stories, and celebrated with us. The work of FAM Houston doesnāt happen without you, and we are so grateful.

In honor of Volunteer Appreciation Month, the City of Houston held the Mayorās Volunteer Awards Ceremony on April 23. Effa Longe, who was nominated by Kelsey Johnson, Shamba Volunteer Coordinator, was recognized at the event.
