🥶☃️ Freezing cold temperatures & a parade of winter storms, this was a memorable winter, but it wasn’t as cold as you think! It was actually the 2nd warmest on record for the Lower 48, many more statewide heat records broke out West, 0 statewide cold records broke in the East! I chat with Dr. Zachary Labe, climate scientist at Climate Central, about how one cold winter does not negate climate change.

💕Did your sweetheart get you sweet treats for ❣️🍫 Chocolate itself has a sweet spot, but it could be getting too hot for the cacao plant in West Africa, the biggest producer of cocoa. Climate Central found six additional weeks of extreme heat is being added to most growing locations, potentially playing a part in the quantity, quality, & cost of our chocolate.

⚡️🌤️🌎The weather & climate enterprise is changing fast. Between the rise of 🧠💻AI & 📲social media, the changing landscape of how we receive, perceive, & use forecast information is both exciting & daunting. I sat down one-on-one with U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) director Ken Graham at American Meteorological Society to get his take on where we are headed & what’s at stake.

It truly wouldn’t be a weather conference without weather headaches, not enough pictures, but amazing friends & loads of science! American Meteorological Society conference is always my favorite way to kick off a new year!
