I keep hearing this advice that we’re not obligated to give our children the life we never had. That maybe true, but I’m going to do it anyway, because it brings me joy to see a smile on his face. I want his blessings to overflow every day. I want him to be so indebted, and filled with gratitude that he feels obligated to spread love in the world. Happy Easter!

Honestly, I don't think there is a 100% way to disown the personality trait of being a people-pleaser.

But once you become aware of it, you can start to regulate it by employing situational boundaries. The word "no" will become your security blanket and best friend.

Over time you become hyper-focus on your emotions and start having conversations that are more like negotiations with your inner-self. The bottom line is taking care of yourself takes practice -- especially when you've neglected yourself for so long.

What does this have to do with designing a career path? Everything.

If you're constantly saying yes to projects, events, promotions, appearances (and the list goes on) to make other people happy and it's making you miserable, then you need to stop. You're no longer on your own career path but society's instead.

Spend time alone thinking about your goals and where you want to be and commit to making those things happen.
