Wu-Tang Clan spent six years recording an album in secret. Then they pressed exactly one physical copy and sold it at auction for $2 million.

The buyer was Martin Shkreli, the pharmaceutical executive who became the most hated man in America after raising the price of an AIDS drug called Daraprim from $13.50 to $750 per pill overnight. A 5,000% increase on a medication that HIV patients depended on to survive.

The album came with a hand-carved nickel-silver box, a leather-bound manuscript with lyrics, and one condition, it could not be commercially released for 88 years.

When Wu-Tang found out who bought it, Ghostface Killah publicly called him out. Shkreli responded by threatening to erase Ghostface's vocals from the album entirely.

In 2017 Shkreli was convicted of securities fraud and sentenced to seven years in prison. The government seized the album and sold it in 2021 for $4.75 million to a group of digital art collectors called PleasrDAO.

After leaving prison in 2022, Shkreli bragged publicly that he had made secret copies hidden in safes around the world. A federal judge ordered him to surrender every copy immediately.

The album still exists. Somewhere.

Nobody outside Wu-Tang has ever heard all of it.
