For years, Sergio Quintana's family traveled far from home searching for a facility that truly understood Prader-Willi Syndrome. In New Mexico, they found themselves constantly in "education mode," explaining PWS to providers who had never treated it.
At the Jump Start Program at Nexus Children's Hospital, that changed. Sergio's interdisciplinary team built the structure, routine, and individualized care plan he needed to stabilize his behaviors, address complex GI challenges, and prepare for a sustainable future.
"At Nexus, we didn't have to explain anything. They just got it." — Cindy Quintana, Sergio's grandmother

At Nexus Health Systems, we are Powered by Purpose. Everything we do is driven by one clear motivation: achieving lasting outcomes for medically complex patients.
For Alex Hines with our Vocational team in Conroe, that purpose shows up in the moment a patient stops doubting themselves and starts believing in what's possible.

Summer doesn't have to mean chaos. For children with autism or neurodevelopmental disorders, building enjoyable activities into consistent structure helps maintain the progress and stability built throughout the school year.
A few approaches that tend to work well:
• Keep wake times, meals, and bedtimes consistent.
• Choose outings with sensory-friendly options. Call ahead to ask about crowd levels, noise, and possible low-stimulation hours.
• Use visual schedules to preview new activities and learn what to expect.
• Incorporate special interests into summer activities wherever possible.
For children whose behaviors escalate significantly without school-year structure, summer can also serve as a clinical signal. If you are supporting a child with autism or a neurodevelopmental disorder who may need a higher level of care, the New Directions Program at Nexus Health Systems provides an interdisciplinary inpatient program integrating medical, behavioral, and rehabilitative care.
