I grew up with the mindset that we should leave people and places better than we found them.
That has always stuck with me.
If I travel somewhere and see trash on the beach, I pick it up. I want that place to be a little cleaner because I was there.
I try to carry that same mindset into the lives of people I meet, too. Leave them with a little more love, a little more knowledge, a little more confidence, a new perspective, or even just a good memory they didn’t have before.
I don’t think every interaction has to be profound. Sometimes leaving something better than you found it is as simple as being kind, sharing what you know, helping when you can, cleaning up after yourself, or treating something with care even when it doesn’t belong to you.
I’m a firm believer that our presence should add something, not just take something.
Imagine if more people moved through the world that way.
Leave the beach cleaner.
Leave the room lighter.
Leave the person stronger.
Leave the community better.
Wherever you go, leave something good behind.
Today was my last radiation follow-up. ☺️
A year ago, I finished 33 radiation treatments, and today that particular chapter of my cancer care officially came to a close.
It doesn’t mean the appointments slow down. I actually had three appointments just today. 😂 The doctors have just changed.
Now there are pain doctors. Osteoporosis doctors. My oncologist. Surgeons, because I still have another surgery or two ahead of me whenever I’m ready. Right now, I’m giving myself a break.
That’s something I didn’t really understand about cancer before having it. Treatment doesn’t always have a clean ending. You slowly graduate from one doctor to another. One problem gets checked off while you’re still dealing with the effects of everything your body has been through.
But I still celebrate every doctor I get to say goodbye to! Bye, Dr Davaluri and thank you!
33 radiation treatments behind me.
One year of follow-ups behind me.
And today, radiation oncology officially checked me off their list. ☺️
One less chapter.

I started one-on-one therapy a couple months ago specifically with a therapist who works with the trauma that comes with cancer. She’s also a breast cancer survivor herself.
And it’s different.
It feels less like sitting across from a therapist trying to explain cancer and more like talking to a sister who already speaks the language.
I don’t have to explain why a scan can ruin my entire week. Why remission doesn’t magically shut the fear off. Why losing people I went through treatment beside hits differently. Why my body doesn’t feel like the same body I had before cancer. Why sometimes I’m grieving who I was while also being incredibly grateful that I’m still here.
She gets it because she’s lived pieces of it too.
I’ve been seeing her for a couple months now, and I’m realizing how much of cancer I survived physically but never really had the chance to process mentally.
Treatment ends. Everyone celebrates. Life starts moving again.
But your brain doesn’t always get that memo.
Having someone help me unpack that part of cancer has been one of the best things I’ve done for myself after treatment.
If you’re struggling after cancer, even long after the appointments slow down, finding a therapist who specifically understands cancer trauma might be worth looking into. There is something incredibly comforting about not having to explain why you’re still affected by something everyone else thinks is “over.”
Nothing will ever be perfect. But I’m grateful to still be here to experience love, loss, joy and hurt. That’s what living is.
