Handy in Havana is a new musical written by WC Handy's grandson Dr. Carlos Handy. The musical explores the trip WC Handy and the Mahara's Minstrels took when they sailed to Havana Cuba in February 1900. The minstrels played several show, and met with many Cuba musicians. The musical explores the impact the Afro-Cuban beats had on WC Handy's best known compositions including the St. Louis Blues, Beale Street Blues and Memphis Blues.
