Elijah Rising is a 501(c)3 nonprofit anti-trafficking organization. They grieved the lack of out cry for those being exploited, oppressed, and sold for sex.
In 2011, a small group of people were deeply struck by the wide-spread injustice of sex trafficking filling their city. This group firmly believed that prayer was the most important and most effective response. So, a monthly meeting was organized and opened to the public. You've heard us talk about this gap in care many times. When a woman leaves a trafficking situation, the ideal first step for her is a place to stabilize before making any long-term decisions. This gap has existed, not just in Houston but across our entire region, for far too long. So we're filling it.
Throughout the World Cup, we will be operating an Emergency Safe Home for survivors of trafficking. It's a heavy lift, but it's critical. You can help! We have an Amazon wishlist with items we need to run this Safe Home and serve women well.
These points of contact we make on Intervention have always needed somewhere to lead. We've been doing our best to serve women in crisis by temporarily housing them in hotels, but that's not ideal. They need a safe, stable home to rest and stabilize.

It’s National Crime Victims’ Rights week, and we are always honored to stand among other organizations who are doing so much amazing work to serve victims of crime in our city.
In 54 days, over half a million people will flood our city to experience the World Cup.
This is an unprecedented influx of people for Houston, and we know that with hundreds of thousands of extra visitors comes a heightened risk for trafficking.
We’re preparing to reach and serve as many women experiencing exploitation as possible, and we can’t do it without you. We need LOTS of volunteers!

Why are we so focused on the World Cup? We know from our experience during the Super Bowl that traffickers have already been preparing to capitalize on the influx of people into our city. So we are preparing too. We’re preparing to serve as many women as we can through intervention, prayer, crisis response, and our emergency safe home.
