Take that, Silicon Valley! Houston leads in tech job growth
If you’re looking for a job in computer technology, you may have better luck in Houston than in Silicon Valley, according to CyberCoders, a tech-job recruiter based in Irvine, Calif.
In a news release Monday, the company announced that Houston led the nation in technology job growth between 2010 and 2011, with a 149-percent increase year to year.
San Jose, Calif., the heart of Silicon Valley, came in second with a 100-percent job increase in the same time period.
The findings were compiled from open tech jobs listed in 2011 compared with 2010, CyberCoders said.
Heidi Golledge, the company’s CEO and co-founder, said in a statement CyberCoders was intrigued with Houston’s performance.
“Houston has always been a city rich in energy jobs, but we are now seeing that the demand for new and clean energy has helped fuel the growth in Houston’s tech sector as well.”

That’s not to say that Houston now has more tech jobs than Silicon Valley — only that tech jobs were added at a faster rate in Houston last year. The recruiter says Houston tech job growth was pushed by .Net developers, Sharepoint developers and process engineers.
Overall, the technology sector had a good 2011, and CyberCoders said it expects tech job growth to accelerate as the economy recovers.
