Did you know that all tires include layers of various materials, including fabrics, plastics, metals, and rubber? All of these materials are laid inside the tire to help it maintain its shape throughout the wear and tear it experiences. Each layer is known as a tire ply.
Know your tread designs, and match them to your equipment and work environment. For general farming practices and good traction in a range of soil conditions, tires with R1 tread are usually sufficient.
If you have struck a deep pothole, bring your car in so we can inspect the tire for damage. Hard jolts can weaken the walls of the tire or knock your vehicle out of alignment.
When using a bias tire instead of a radial tire for agricultural use, be aware that, due to the stiffness of the tire, it does not absorb bumps well. All impact and shaking are felt by the driver and machine.
It is an old trick, but it is effective. To check the tread depth on your car’s tires, grab a penny and insert it into the tread, with Honest Abe’s head down. If the tread does not reach, or just touches, the top of his coif, it is time for a new tire.

If you notice a sudden increase in vibration in your tires, this may be a sign that it’s time to replace them. As soon as you notice the vibration, examine the sidewalls and treads or bring the vehicle in for a quick inspection.

Tire rotation helps the tires wear evenly by moving the more heavily used front tires to the back and bringing forward the back tires, which get less wear in a front-wheel drive car.

What’s the difference? Bias tires feature a cross-ply construction that extends ply cords on the diagonal from one edge to the other. Radial tires feature ply cords that run parallel to each other and cross the tread at right angles.
