Toxic waste dump could contaminate Galveston Bay 'forever' 03/15/2016

Last week, the EPA discovered more unprotected areas in the San Jacinto River Waste Pits. GBF is calling for complete removal of the cancer-causing dioxin rather than trying to cap it in place like the responsible parties have proposed.

Dioxin never breaks down when it is not exposed to sunlight. This means that the cap would have to protect us forever, when it has already been proven to have multiple problems in the four short years It has been in place.

Toxic waste dump could contaminate Galveston Bay 'forever' A toxic dump that two Fortune 500 companies claim safely contains cancer-causing Dioxin has been found to be riddled with holes in its protective cap.

Update: GBF has remained in contact throughout the day with the U.S. Coast Guard and Incident Command, and at this time there have been no reports of affected wildlife. As shown in this map, authorities continue to monitor air and water quality throughout and around the safety zone, but levels initially appear to show that there is no health concern to the public. As a reminder, if you see any chemical sheen or affected wildlife, please report it by phone to 281-842-8100 or online through GBF’s mobile reporting site: www.galvbay.org/GBAN
