Thank you to and N2 Publishing's Danielle Stewart for showcasing the Houston History Bus and Mister McKinney's Historic Houston in the December issue!

The full color magazine is delivered directly to those living in the Houston Heights, but for those not in the here is the article.....

"If you're not following Mister McKinney's Historic Houston's Historic Houston on Facebook, then you're missing out on a lot of local history.

This year marks Mister McKinney's fifteenth year educating Houston's future about its past, and he's celebrating with his newest project, Houston's first-ever mobile classroom dedicated to local history, called the Houston History Bus. For the last three months, he has been picking up school kids from all over Houston and taking them around their neighborhood to learn about their local history, calling it "micro-history" and making it fun. So much fun, he is making his way to the Houston Heights area, which is rich with history dating back to 1891 when it was founded by millionaire visionary, Oscar Martin Carter.

recently worked with the Texas history classes at Harvard Elementary School to take them around the Heights, explaining the Victorian architecture, how the city was laid out and discussing the streetcar that was the main connector to the larger City of Houston, which all helped to paint a picture to the fourth graders of what the Houston Heights looked like in 1898, when their school first opened its doors. "I knew I needed to create a way to truly engulf kids in local history and the tour buses I would rent just don't compare," explains McKinney. "You have to make learning fun and I've had success with getting kids to look around and simply ask questions about how and why their neighborhood looks a certain way. It forces them to ask questions and in education, questions are good. It means they're engaged."

Mister McKinney knows a thing or two about Houston history, serving on the boards of numerous museums, libraries and non-profits dedicated to preserving history, like the Harris County Historical Society, the Houston Public Library's Friends of the Texas Room, the La Porte Bay Area Historical Society, the Friends of the Bellaire Library, The Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park and the the Harris County Historical Commission which is in charge of the state and county historical markers we see all around the city. You just might see a film crew following the , which has been featured on Ch. 39's NewsFix, Fox 26 morning show, KPRC's Houston Life and the Emmy-Award winning KHOU's Great Day Houston, where Mister McKinney has served as the resident historian since 2008, appearing every two weeks to talk about Houston history.

In November, the Houston History Bus offered free tours courtesy of Houston Council Member Robert Gallegos, District I and a business with strong Heights ties, Service Corporation International/Dignity Memorial, called "Titans and Tycoons: A Legacy Tour at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetary" running Nov. 3 to Nov. 21 at the East End Houston cemetery founded in 1921 with a list of Houston's Who's Who calling it their final resting place. Learn about the legends that came before us and how they shaped the city.

And for the holidays, from Thanksgiving to New Years, The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa has tapped Mister McKinney to join their new "Merry Mansions" package, which includes a nights stay at the premier property, brunch, make your own gingerbread mini-mansion, tickets to MFAH Bayou Bend and a special tour in River Oaks mansions of the legendary Houston architect , given by Mister McKinney on board his Houston History Bus. In addition to tours, the open-air bus is a favorite for holiday light viewings, kids birthday parties, a unique transportation option and client appreciation events, that all expose people to the history around them, which is Mister McKinney's main goal in creating the vehicle to entertain and educate Houston's future about its past.
