Her amazing family truly touched our hearts by choosing to open their home to a senior dog, giving her the love, comfort, and happiness she so deeply deserves. We couldn’t be more thankful for this wonderful family for seeing her worth and giving her the best forever home.

FAQ:
Can kids volunteer?
Volunteers must be 18 or older to be in rooms where animals are present or to handle animals (cat scribe, dog recovery, runner, data runner, or kennel). Students 14-17 may volunteer for setup or breakdown activities, ideally with teacher or parent supervision. A parent must also sign the volunteer waiver, which is emailed several days before the event.

Can volunteers sign up their pets or skip the registration line?
No, events target particular zip codes. Unless volunteers live in the selected zip codes, they are not likely to participate. Volunteers who are eligible must go through the same process as the public and cannot request to have the pet arrive late or leave early to coordinate with their volunteer shifts.

We are incredibly grateful to our amazing February 2026 event sponsor and partners who made The Empty Shelter Project's lifesaving work possible.

Because of their generosity, families received free services; we had a fantastic facility to house our event; and our medical team and volunteers were well fed with incredible breakfast tacos, donuts, boxed lunches, homemade cookies, and freshly-made tacos and sliders! We even had our trash whisked away, so the school didn't have to deal with it.

We also appreciate the hands-on support many of these groups provided! It was great working with you and your amazing teams throughout the planning and event process.
