We've been in Baton Rouge, LA, at Southern University and A&M College - Baton Rouge, LA! This week, we were thrilled to welcome over 50 students for the fourth year of the Tapia Carbon Project, developed in collaboration with ExxonMobil Pipeline Company.

Students have been diving deep into topics related to algorithms and energy. For example, one project is on carbon capture and storage — learning why it is important and putting that knowledge to the test by building their own model carbon storage reservoirs.

Tomorrow, they'll present their findings to industry experts and peers — and we have a feeling they're going to impress.

Programs like this are how we help develop the next generation of STEM leaders, and we're proud to do it alongside such talented students and dedicated partners.

This week we welcome 40 teachers from across southwest Louisiana to SOWELA Technical Community College as they participate in our 2nd annual professional development program in the area.

These educators will be learning the principles of project-based learning and will apply them to adapt a STEM project for use in their classroom. Each project will be related to the theme of Algorithms and Energy. At the end of the week, they will showcase their work to industry professionals, community leaders, school district superintendents, and others.

We look forward to hearing about their project successes later this fall!

For the third year in a row, ExxonMobil Pipeline Company is proud to collaborate with Jackson State University and the Tapia Center to provide a STEM-packed week of learning for rising 10th–12th grade students.

Hosted at JSU, the Algorithms and Energy Camp introduces campers to the world of data centers, computer hardware concepts, and the real-world impact of STEM careers and innovation.

Today, ExxonMobil’s CO₂ Operations Area Manager Brian Blatt had the opportunity to speak with campers about his firsthand journey in the energy industry and the exciting opportunities available to those pursuing a career in STEM.

We look forward to seeing all the project presentations at the Science Fair this afternoon, where additional members of the ExxonMobil team will be on hand to answer questions and engage with students!

We are excited to share that the Tapia Center’s Techniques of a Pro Mathematician program has received the AMS Young Scholars Award! 🎉👏

Supported by the Epsilon Fund, this award recognizes exceptional summer math programs that build curiosity and confidence in mathematically talented youth.

Funds received have created additional scholarships for high school students to join us at Rice University for our Tapia STEM Camps this summer.
