Puppetry Summer Workshop
June 9 - August 25
6-8pm - Tuesdays

Puppetry Deer Park Community Center
Ages 10-14 yrs old

Ever wonder what magic is happening behind the stage curtain?
Want to be a super star without all the drawbacks of celebrity?
Have you ever dreamed of being a puppet master?
Want to learn how to be a great performer, NO strings attached?!?!

Then join us at the Deer Park Community Center for our newest and MOST FUN learning opportunity:
Puppeteering for Beginners.

In this course, we will teach you the Five Basics every Master Puppeteer learns:
1. Posture
2. Eye contact
3. Mouth action
4. Lip syncing
5. Entrance and exits

No marionettes or sock puppets allowed : ). We work with professionally manufactured big mouth puppets similar to the ones on your favorite shows: Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, and The Dark Crystal.

For even more fun, you will learn all about “prop-a-teering.” Adding props, signs, and other effects to enhance puppet shows and storytelling.

The end of the course will be celebrated with a performance for family and friends starring YOU and all your classmates.

Other Snippets:
Puppetry is a fun and expressive form of performance art that literally anyone can master. After learning just a few basic techniques, a puppeteer can use the fundamentals to stage countless routines, shows, and improvisations.
Puppetry encourages and fosters creativity, communication, and self-expression. A message that is complicated or complex can be moderated easily with puppetry.
Puppetry empowers a usually shy or introverted person to express themselves in positive and powerful ways while minimizing their fear and anxiety.
Puppets EQUAL FUN across all ages and cultures.
