US will not enforce Biden wheelchair passenger protection rule. ✈️

The Trump administration is rolling back disability protections for air travelers.

The Transportation Department announced it will no longer enforce Biden-era policies requiring airlines to reimburse passengers when wheelchairs are damaged or when accessible flights cost more.

Also, airlines will no longer be required to give passengers written notice of their rights when checking mobility devices.

According to disability advocates, an estimated 5.5 million Americans rely on wheelchairs and airlines damage or lose about one wheelchair for every 100 they transport.

Southwest Airlines has set an official date for their next change.

Come January 2026, the Dallas-based air carrier will end more than 50 years of the pick-your-spot philosophy that defined its history.
